Happy birthday Che Guevara, the Marxist icon par excellence, who changed the world forever during his short life! Starting as a humanitarian doctor, forged by the catastrophic consequences of capitalism in Latin America, and immortalized in the communist struggle – for Che Guevara, words and deeds were the same.
In 1953, bidding farewell to his parents, Guevara started with his legendary motorcycle trip across Latin America. He first encountered his future comrade-in-arms in Mexico, the young Fidel Castro, preparing for the guerrilla struggle in Cuba.
Years of guerrilla warfare followed, during which Che became the comandante of the Cuban revolutionaries, whose victory catapulted him onto the world stage. However, his revolutionary urge was not satisfied, and he once again threw himself into the guerrilla fight.
When the Bolivian army captured Guevara after a fierce battle in 1967, his captors executed him on the spot, following orders from the CIA. The murder made him immortal.

Sophie’s ‘hot take’ is as old as the hills. It has always been a view taken by a section of the working class that distrusts the trade unions and generally supports and, come election time, votes for the Conservatives.
Strike action is taken by the members - the rank and file of any trade union, not by mythical ‘union bosses’, whoever they are. No legal strike action can take place in this country without a postal ballot, with legal thresholds for minimum turnouts and votes in favour of strike.
Thresholds which, it should be said, do not exist for the election of our oppressors.
No strike action is led by a ‘union boss’ dragging their poor, unwilling and downtrodden members who only want a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work, into losing money against their will.
That is a fantasy spun by the ruling class and their servants like Sophie.
Anyone who knows anything about trade unionism would know that the main roadblock faced by workers fighting for better pay, terms and conditions are the very trade union bosses Sophie criticises.
Trade unions leaders are, more often than not, dragged into disputes by their members, not the other way round.
Working class people should stand shoulder to shoulder with their fellow workers when they fight for better lives for their families and themselves.
And working class people should reject the ‘know your place, don’t rise above yourself, be grateful you have a job and reject the trade union barons’ anti-working class rubbish spouted by people like Sophie Corcoran.

Strikes hurt the working class.
Union bosses are suffocating the lowest paid.

This is what passes for "Marxism" in Manchester these days. How the SWP survive after 50 years of being wrong about every major issue is a mystery.

Why is Britain so set on escalating the war in Ukraine?
Tanks, depleted uranium shells, long-range missiles, F16s: hardly a week goes by without some news of how Britain is upping the ante again.

And here it is - the time bomb ticking under the British economy, set to detonate in an election year.
The country’s economy is largely driven by the buying and selling of private houses. Many people’s retirements depend on the purchasing of multiple properties which are let to private tenants.
In fact, the only asset bubble that the Government was able to restore after the crash of 2008 was the housing bubble. Every other pillar of British capitalism remains decrepit and beyond repair.
Sunak and Hunt both believe that any relief for people whose mortgages will increase by an average of £240 per month next year would be ‘inflationary’. The Bank of England possesses very few tools to lower inflation and it’s flogging the one it has to death, which is hiking interest rates.
All of this means that the Tories face a storm over the next eighteen months which they will not be able to navigate a path through. But Labour will offer no alternatives: They will be custodians of the same broken and sclerotic system as the Tories have governed since 2010.
The only viable solution is socialism: The abolition of private property relations and the sweeping away of an economic system built on the buying and selling of houses and the deliberate and planned constriction of house building and the supply of homes to inflate house prices.

Via FARS News Agency, Germany will have to reduce or curtail its industrial production if Russia and Ukraine fail to extend the deal on transit of gas that is due to expire in 2024, Economy Minister Robert Habeck said on Monday while attending the East German Economic Forum
Habeck stated, "If Russian gas stops flowing in Eastern Europe in the same volume it has been flowing via Ukraine up to this moment, it will lead to something which has been agreed at the European level — we will have to reduce our industrial production or even curtail it before people start to freeze there,"
To date, Russia’s Gazprom supplies about 40 million cubic meters of gas per day to the Sudzha entry point on border with Ukraine for further transit to Europe. The current transit contract expires in December 2024.

In December last year, President Joseph Robinette Biden Jr signed into law legislation which made an ongoing rail strike illegal and imposed a 'deal' on the members of the four unions which remained in dispute with the rail companies.
The rail workers were fighting against years of staffing cuts and calling for the introduction of sick leave. Yet the US Senate and the President responded, not by intervening to settle the dispute, but by giving themselves sweeping powers to crush the strikes without recourse.
It was an anti-worker reaction to a just class struggle not seen since Ronald Reagan crushed the Air Traffic Controllers' Strike in 1981.
It was somehow inevitable that the wretched organisation that is the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organisation (AFL-CIO) voted to endorse Biden for re-election in 2024, despite the election being almost eighteen months away.
"There's absolutely no question that Joe Biden is the most pro-union president in our lifetimes" said AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler. "We've never seen a president more forcefully advocate for workers' fundamental right to join a union", she went on to say.
This was the very same "pro-union" President who made a legitimate strike illegal because the workers had real economic power and both he and his contemptible Senate had no clue how settle the dispute other than to crush it completely.
We must stand with all workers in struggle, wherever they are in the world, but we cannot countenance the disgusting, corrupt and wretched bureaucracies that 'lead' their trade unions and deign to speak on their behalf. Workers need to consign them to the trash can of history.
