Our comrade Chris discussing the ideas of Metro Mayor Steve Rotherham to "improve" Merseyside public transport.

The Soviet Union understood the fundamental role of public transport as a vital link between the worker and industry, community and service. It prioritised infrastructure that served the needs of the people, ensuring production and daily life were harmoniously connected.

Britain, by contrast, has blindly followed the American model of car-centric travel for decades. Our high streets have been gutted and replaced by soulless retail parks, isolated developments surrounded by vast car parks and deliberately awkward public transport links. These are built outside of working-class communities, severing the organic connection between home, work, and service.

Industry and public services should be rooted in the communities they serve, with homes located nearby or connected through efficient, affordable public transport.

As our comrade Chris rightly points out in his video, Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram has no real intention of providing a public transport system that serves the needs of local workers. His bendy bus scheme isn’t about improving access to work or easing daily travel—it's designed to funnel tourists to Liverpool’s attractions. Once again, workers are sidelined in favour of capital.

There is hardly another section of the proletariat which comes so closely into contact with industry and agriculture in its everyday economic activity as the railway and water transport workers. You must supply the cities with food, and revive the rural areas by carrying the manufactured goods to them. That is clear to everyone, but it is much clearer to railway and water transport workers, because that is their everyday work. And from this, I think, follow the exceptionally important tasks and the responsibility now falling to the railway and water transport workers.

This is an article we wrote in response to an awful BBC article. The BBC wrote this article after Iran retaliated against Israel's attack on an Iranian embassy in Syria last year. Killing 16 people including a military commander.

Our reply offers a deeper understanding to the conflict in the region that you will never receive from pro-imperialist media.

A call for international solidarity with the struggle of the Bulgarian people against the euro!

The imperialist structures of the EU are seeking expansion in the context of the upcoming full-scale war against Russia.

Over the last few years, the comprador ruling class in Bulgaria has been doing everything possible to get the country into the eurozone in order to do the will of its Western masters. The planned date for this is 1 January 2026. This will happen against the will of the vast majority of the Bulgarian people. Even official polls admits that about two thirds of Bulgarians are against this move. It is obvious to everyone that this will lead to further impoverishment of the working class and even greater dependence of Bulgaria on Western corporations and institutions.

There is a large-scale opposition to the euro in the country. With the efforts of the entire nation, over 600 000 signatures have been collected demanding a referendum on this issue. This means that every tenth adult Bulgarian has signed this petition. However, the Bulgarian authorities, subservient to imperialism, refuse to hold such a referendum because they know in advance what the reaction of the people will be. Propaganda, censorship and repression are intensified.

However, the resistance continues. Almost daily protests are held in all places of Bulgaria. Tens of thousands of people attend the largest protests in the capital Sofia. At some of these protests, tensions and clashes with the police have occurred. Protesters have been arrested and detained for weeks for opposing the euro. However, the repression is not paying off for the Bulgarian people and the resistance continues.

In this connection, we would like to appeal to all anti-imperialists around the world to stand in solidarity with the struggle of the Bulgarian people against the EU's dictates and the forced entry of the country into the euro area. If the Bulgarian people manage to fight for their freedom and avoid the adoption of the euro as a result of popular resistance, this would be a major defeat for imperialism that would have global significance for the struggle of the peoples of the world.

We therefore call on everyone who feels for the cause of the struggle against oppression and the dictates of the EU to express solidarity with the struggle of the Bulgarian people against the euro in a way that is appropriate to the conditions in the country concerned. You can then send us photos and videos to show that the Bulgarian people are not alone. They need solidarity at this difficult time. The peoples of the world are brothers and have common interests in the context of the struggle against imperialism.
Solidarity is our weapon! United we will win!

Dave Ward of the Communication Workers Union (him that sold out the posties not so very long ago) has been awarded a CBE (Commander of the British Empire).

Here he is on Twitter celebrating:

This is a reward for services rendered. Next step: a kick upstairs to the House of Lords and a retirement of gin and expenses.

Read more about the real trade union barons here:
https://thecommunists.org/2023/05/20/news/the-real-trade-union-barons/

Trade unions remain the biggest organisers of working-class people in the country. Six million people are members of trade unions, but these unions and their bureaucracies are hard-wired into the capitalist system.

The leaders are rewarded for their service to that system while workers in struggle are repeatedly betrayed and sold out.

There have, of course, been some honourable exceptions. Roney Bickerstaff and Bob Crow spring to mind. The greatest of all the non-conformists in recent history was, of course, miners’ leader Arthur Scargill, who led a titanic struggle for his members, their industry, and for British industrial jobs in general. A struggle that was only lost as a result of the betrayal of the wider trade union movement and the Labour party leadership.

Scargill, of course, has never ceased to be vilified by establishment media and politicians. He committed the ultimate sin of leaving and then politically opposing the Labour party.

The ruling class and its Trotskyite agents in the working-class movement put great efforts into making sure his Socialist Labour party never got meaningful traction with the working class.
