Via BBC, the United Kingdom has been circumventing its own ban on Russian oil by exploiting a "refinery loophole" to import millions of barrels of the sanctioned commodity in the guise of fuels processed in third countries.
India and China, now the leading purchasers of Russian oil following Western sanctions, are refining the sanctioned crude into jet fuel and diesel, subsequently reselling it to various countries worldwide, including the UK.
Re-exporting processed oil is not prohibited and does not violate the UK's ban on Russian oil, as it aligns with internationally recognized "rules of origin."
