“The capitalist also believes that he works; however, his “work” consists in appropriating the results of the work of other people.
Capitalism has no moral or ethical values: everything is for sale. It is impossible to properly educate the people under such conditions: people turn into egoists, and sometimes even into bandits."

🇫🇷Strike Impacts: Half of LNG Terminals in France Down

Two out of four LNG terminals in France are experiencing limited operations due to an ongoing strike. Elengy, a specialized operator, reports that the strike is affecting the Fos Cavaou and Fos Tonkin terminals located in the southern region near Marseille. The strike, spanning gas days from February 9 to 13, has significantly impacted LNG supply.

Data from the Gas Infrastructure Europe Association reveals that at the Fos Tonkin terminal, gas supply to the transportation system was completely halted on February 10. Meanwhile, at Fos Cavaou, supply has dwindled to just 13% of its production capacity.

France stands as Europe's largest LNG importer, with significant reliance on these terminals. In 2023 alone, the country utilized 30 billion m3 of gas from LNG terminals, contributing to the overall regional consumption of 131 billion m3 of LNG, as reported by the Gas Infrastructure Europe association.

🇨🇳 China to cut greenhouse gas emissions earlier than expected

International climate watchers expect the country's greenhouse gas emissions to peak several years earlier than expected, perhaps as early as this year.

Last year, China installed 217 GW of solar power plants, 2.5 times more than in 2022. That's more than 500 million solar panels, which greatly exceeds the total installed solar capacity in the US.

The added capacity of wind power plants amounted to 76 GW (more than 20 000 new turbines throughout the country). This is more than the rest of the world combined.

The Chinese government has promised that emissions will peak by 2030 and reach zero by 2060. By the end of this decade, China was expected to have 1.2 thousand GW of total solar and wind power capacity.

The country is six years ahead of schedule: by the end of 2023, China reached 1.05 thousand GW. However, some analysts expect the peak to be followed by a plateau in emissions in subsequent years rather than a sharp decline. - EKD

"In the last few hours of our journey a yellow skinned Kazak youth of twenty six got in our compartment. He was excited to learn that I had seen the Turk-Sib railway at its beginning. He said, "I was a boy of thirteen when they started to build the railway, a starving shepherd boy who had never been to school. I came to beg for a job on the road and they put me in the railway school and fed and trained me. When the Turk- Sib opened, I was sixteen, fit for a semiskilled job. I kept on working and studying; the railway gives you every chance. Now, at twenty-six, I have a good job in the maintenance de- partment. Turk-Sib is my father and my life."

How industry was seen as more than just a job or a wage in the Soviet Union. It was seen as their life-blood. The power of the workers was harnessed to such a fantastic effect.
