We were once on a 13 month 28 day calendar that had us more connected and in sync with this realm. They tried to bring us back to that calander in the 1900s but it was buried.

The House passed a large defense bill Friday evening that included a provision that would automatically enroll young men between the ages of 18 and 26* for the Selective Service.
The House's version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which would authorize $895 billion in military spending, passed by a vote of 217–199. It's unlikely to be picked up by the Democrat-controlled Senate because of numerous amendments regarding abortion, diversity efforts, and transgender medical treatments. The Selective Service provision, though, is part of an enduring bipartisan effort to keep the framework for military connoscription in place, even though the draft ended in 1975.

Automatic registration would replace the coming-of-age tradition that all 18-year-old male U.S. citizens experience when they get a card in the mail from Uncle Sam informing them that they're required under threat of criminal penalties to register for the Selective Service.

Supporters of the legislation framed it as a more efficient and cost-effective method.

"By using available federal databases, the [Selective Service] agency will be able to register all of the individuals required and thus help ensure that any future military draft is fair and equitable," Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D–Pa.) said on the House floor. "This will also allow us to rededicate resources—basically that means money—towards reading readiness and towards mobilization…rather than towards education and advertising campaigns driven to register people."

The other, unspoken effect would be removing young men's choice to engage in civil disobedience.
The draft is a hobby horse for Houlahan, an Air Force veteran. She also spearheaded a House bill in 2021 to require women to register with the Selective Service, effectively doubling the draft pool.

The Selective Service System was first founded in 1917 to feed bodies into America's World War I efforts. It was disbanded in 1920, fired back up in 1940, re-formatted in 1948, and then terminated in 1975 as part of Washington's decisive shift to an all-volunteer military. Then a panicky President Jimmy Carter in 1980, alarmed by the Soviet Union's invasion of Afghanistan, reinstituted draft registration as a just-in-case rite of passage for boys to complete within 30 days of their 18th birthday, under theoretical penalty of five years imprisonment and (eventually) up to $250,000 in fines.

While there have only been 14 convictions for Selective Service refuseniks, and none since 1986, those 100,000 or so young men per year who disobey Washington's marching orders are typically barred from working government jobs, receiving student loans, and (in around 40 states) obtaining a driver's license.

The Indiana District 8 Representative, Larry Bucshon, is vacating his position in January 2025. Perhaps a last hurrah to spend money on promotion of a failing program.

The Alliance to Save America’s 340B Program is a partnership of community health centers, patient, provider, and consumer advocates, and leaders from the biopharmaceutical industry working to ensure the 340B program supports true safety-net providers and the communities they serve.

Congress created the 340B program over 30 years ago to help low-income and other vulnerable patients access more affordable medicines. Today, Community Health Centers rely on the program to serve their communities.
 
The 340B program should enable true safety-net providers to help low-income and other vulnerable patients access more affordable medicines and health care services.
 
But some entities that participate in the program, such as large, well-resourced hospitals, have taken advantage of the program’s lack of clarity at the expense of the patients that the program is meant to serve.

On the surface, it might look like a clash of egos, but to understand what is happening in the once-powerful GOP, of Vanderburgh County we need to look at the root causes.

There is friction in the Indiana State and Local Republican Party with warring factions of MAGA Republicans and Rinos. In Indiana, conservatives flexed their political partisan muscles two years ago by electing new convention delegates and replacing Holi Sullivan with Diego Moralis as Secretary of State.
At the end of 2023, Indiana GOP conservatives recruited like-minded people to run for precinct Committeemen and convention delegates. Record numbers of people filed to run for those party positions throughout the state, causing alarm among establishment Republican leaders. 

The surge in filings was seen as a threat to the status quo, and County GOP Chairs scoured the list of candidates to use the state’s two primary laws to disqualify people who filed. At the same time, many party bosses were signing waivers for friends who did not vote Republican in their last two primaries.

Locally, one such waiver issued by Vanderburgh County Chairperson Mike Duckworth, allowed Amy Canterbury to run for County Commissioner and go on to defeat long-term incumbent County Commissioner Cheryl Musgrave in the Republican primary.

It is no secret that Duckworth has been unhappy with Musgrave since 2018 when Duckworth lost to Democrat Jeff Hartfield in his run for a seat on the Vanderburgh County Commission.

Right after Commissioner Musgrave announced her plans to run for Mayor Winneeke’s seat it immediately caused his inner circle to recruit a Republican to run against County Commissioner Musgrave.

 It was widely known that members of the Mayor’s inner circle approached numerous people to run for Mayor of Evansville against Vanderburgh County Commissioner Musgrave. After many people declined to run against Musgrave, After an exhausting search Mayor Winnecke, his wife Carol, and members of his political inner circle selected Natalie Rascher to run against Musgrave for Mayor.
Duckworth did not support Musgrave in the Republican Mayoral primary, instead, he supported the candidate recruited by then-Mayor Lloyd Winnecke. and his wife Carol.
After the Mayoral election, one of the people who had his filing for PC and delegate status challenged by Chairman Duckworth was Libertarian Mayoral candidate Michael Daugherty. In the hearing meeting that heard over a dozen challenges, Duckworth prevailed in winning all but Michael Duckworth’s complaint.

After the Election Board meeting, Duckworth abruptly removed the well-respected Republican lawyer and President of the Election Board Joe Harrison who rightly sided with Daugherty at the election board hearing.
Daugherty publicly joined County Commissioner Musgrave in calling for Duckworth’s resignation and stated that he would run for chair. Ken Colbert and Cheryl Batteiger-Smith also criticized Duckworth and called for his resignation.

After the election and vote certification by the Vanderburgh County election board, everyone in the local GOP breathed a sigh of relief that they were duly elected. But Duckworth had one more trick up his sleeve. He filed complaints to the 8th Congressional District Republican Committee to remove Daugherty, Colbert, and Batteiger-Smith from their elected positions as PCs. The hearings resulted in an unprecedented ban on all three delegates from the party until 2030.

The charges against Daugherty focused on his run for mayor as a libertarian. The witness against Daugherty was none other than Natalie Rascher, the former hand-picked mayoral candidate. Rascher told the hearing committee members that Michael Daugherty was the reason she was defeated for Mayor..

It’s a well-known fact that outgoing Mayor Winnecke hurt Rascher’s election chances because he controlled Ms. Rashner’s campaign message which in turn caused her problems during the campaign. The voters wanted to hear what Natalie stood for and not Winnecke.

INDIANA

One of the recommendations the Governor's Public Health Commission made in 2022 was to create a council focused on Indiana’s health workforce. That group met for the first time this week.

The council is made up of representatives from across the health industry.

Brooke Mullen, the executive director of the council, said it will help identify areas of need and align workforce efforts statewide. It will also develop the state’s health workforce plan.

Mullen said the council has flexibility in how it achieves that. This means if the members feel they’re missing some context or insight, they have the power to bring in more voices and perspectives.

“No single stakeholder is responsible for the clinical or the public health workforce of our state,” Mullen said.

Mullen said members aren’t starting from “square one” when it comes to trying to tackle workforce issues.

The Indiana Department of Health and the Family and Social Services Administration hosted a summit of stakeholders from across the state in April to identify where the health workforce was doing well and where it could improve.

The first meeting focused on the first of two key components identified by summit participants, which was how to connect more age groups to education pathways for health workforce employment.

The government created far overreacting “mandates” violating the rights of medical personnel. These egregious actions resulted in qualified personnel leaving the medical profession. Now a crisis exists to employ medical staff. Hello!! This “crisis” is a bi-product created by the government, but hey they are now here to help again!
