📲🦠 رهگیری تماس و جلوگیری از شیوع بیش از حد کرونا
کنترل یک اپیدمی یک مسئله #پیچیده است؛ یعنی از آپولو هوا کردن هم سختتره! از وقتی هم که کرونا عالمگیر شده، آدما در صنفهای مختلف همه تلاششون رو کردن که جلوی گسترش این شیوع رو بگیرن. یکی از راههای موثر و کمهزینه غیردارویی «رهگیری تماس» یا contact tracing هست. متاسفانه این روش توی ایران خیلی جدی گرفته نشده ولی تقریبا همه کشورهای اروپایی و امریکای شمالی و حتی جایی مثل سنگاپور سراغ این گزینه رفتن!
ایده اصلی اینه که روی موبایل برنامهای نصب کنیم که به کمک بلوتوث وقتی آدما از یک فاصلهای نزدیکتر به همدیگه قرار میگیرن، این در نزدیکی هم بودن یا «تماس» رو ثبت کنه. اون موقع هر موقع فردی متوجه بشه که مبتلا شده (با تست یا هر چیز دیگه) این برنامه به همه افرادی که شخص مبتلا باهاشون در تماس بوده پیام میفرسته که عزیز شما در معرض بودی و احتمالا مبتلا شدی پس برو خودت رو قرنطینه کن! این کار منجر میشه که بیماری از فرد دوم دارای برنامه فراتر نداره و پیشرویش متوقف بشه. خصوصا در مورد بیماریهایی مثل کرونا که شخص مبتلا میتونه به مدت چند روز ناقل بیعلامت باشه این نرمافزارها خیلی کمک میکنند.
سوالی که پیش میاد اینه که در عمل این نرمافزارها چقدر میتونن موثر باشن؟ طبیعتا چیزهای زیادی باید در نظر گرفته بشه؛ مثلا چه کسری از جامعه باید این برنامهها رو نصب کنند تا به طور چشمگیری فایدهش مشاهده بشه؟ آیا فقط تعداد این آدمها مهمه یا توزیعشون در بین مردم هم مهمه؟ یا از طرف دیگه میدونیم که همبستگی وجود داره بین نصب کردن این جور برنامهها و موقعیت اجتماعی آدمها، شغلشون، سنشون و ... خب این همبستگی چه اثری میذاره؟ به طور فنیتر، شبکه تماسی که این بیماری روی اون داره منتقل میشه چه خواص توپولوژیکی داره و توپولوژیهای مختلف چهطوری به فایده استفاده از این برنامهها واکنش نشون میدن؟ آیا راهکار موثری هست که با کمترین تعداد نصب برنامه بیشترین فایده رو بگیریم؟! در ضمن باید در نظر بگیریم که این برنامهها هم ممکنه درست کار نکنن یا شخص دومی که پیام هشدار رو گرفته خودش رو قرنطینه نکنه!
ما سعی کردیم در این مقاله به این سوالها پاسخ بدیم؛ هم مدل #تراوش حافظهدار شبیهسازی کردیم، هم گزارههای احتمالاتی نوشتیم و شیوع بیماری در حضور این برنامهها رو مدل کردیم و هم اینکه مدل بخشبندی تعمیمیافتهای معرفی کردیم که بشه این برنامهها رو توی مدلهای قدیمی مثل SIR گنجود!

The “Socioeconomic Roots of Academic Faculty,”
We surveyed 7000 U.S. faculty from 8 disciplines to study how socioeconomic status shapes the academic workforce.

2/ First, we asked faculty about their parents' level of education when they were kids.
Half of faculty reported a parent having a grad degree, and nearly a quarter had a parent with a PhD. That’s 25x the rate of U.S. adults. 😮
3/ In fact, even compared to their PhD graduating classes, people who go on to be professors are nearly 2x as likely to have PhD parents!
➡️ 11.8% of all U.S. PhD recipients have PhD parents.
➡️ 22.2% of surveyed faculty have PhD parents.
4/ But even among faculty, their socioeconomic roots make a difference:
Faculty at more elite institutions are about 2x as likely to have a PhD parent than those at the least prestigious institutions — a pattern that is remarkably stable over 70 years.
5/ Socioeconomic status also impacts how much parental support faculty report receiving in their careers: more highly educated parents = more family support that faculty receive 🤗
6/ Using self-reported childhood ZIP codes, we estimated each faculty’s childhood neighborhood’s average income:
Faculty come from relatively wealthy, sub/urban neighborhoods (24% higher median income than the general public), and most (76%) said their family owned their home.
7/ The intersection of the socioeconomic roots of faculty with race, gender, and geography poses broad challenges for efforts to diversify academia, and our findings highlight their intergenerational nature.
8/ Limitations: we surveyed current faculty, which may select for higher SES individuals; and, our results highlight the advantages of childhood SES, but don’t speak to the intersectional difficulties many face once they become faculty.
9/ To close: Faculty tend to come from highly educated families. But, for murky reasons: how does a parent’s PhD help a child become faculty, at an elite job? Perhaps identifying with academic ideals? Early opportunities academia values? Role models? 🤷🏼 We’d love to know.
10/ This topic is rich with interesting questions — those socioeconomic roots are deep and pervasive — and it draws together many other threads of scholarship. We are excited to see more of these, and feedback is most welcome!
