Matt is a nerd with a lot of free time that was socially retarded enough to think that he could impress Japanese people by writing out obscure kanji and only now after 10 years and having to move to Japan has he acquired the self-awareness necessary to behave like a normal person, despite the fact that he is anything but a normal person.
