According to Kyodo News, one of the U.S. contingency plans for Taiwan includes deploying missiles to the southwestern Japanese Nansei Island Chain (also known as the Ryukyu Islands). A U.S. Marine Littoral Regiment is expected to quickly set up temporary bases on the island chain in concert with Japanese forces, who are expected to provide mainly logistical support for the move.
