During an ongoing presser at the White House, U.S. President Donald J. Trump and White House National Security Advisor Mike Waltz have compounded on the president’s past comments that he would like both sides, Ukraine and Russia, to come to the table. However, President Trump stopped short of admitting that the Russians are currently taking advantage of the reduction in U.S. direct military and intelligence assistance to Ukraine, saying “I’m not sure if they [Ukraine] really want to settle.” He did, however, admit that Russia is increasing the tempo of strikes to apply pressure to Ukraine.

During a now-concluded presser with White House National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, U.S. President Donald J. Trump has compounded on past statements saying that a deal with Iran on its burgeoning nuclear program would be ideal. However, the president alluded to other, more direct actions, saying, “That something is going to happen pretty soon. You’ll be talking about that pretty soon.” This comes soon after President Trump announced that he sent a letter to Iran's top decision-maker, the Ayatollah, urging for a peaceful reconciliation over their nuclear program.

According to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, he spoke with his U.S. counterpart, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, over the phone today. They spoke on the upcoming U.S.-Ukraine talks in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and bilateral cooperation. While no mention of the unsigned mineral deal was made, it’s likely that this and other topics touched on by the Trump administration in the past week were also the topic of conversation.

The Trump Administration has announced that it will rescind upwards of $400 million in federal grants to Columbia University in New York City, following well over a year now of antisemitic attacks and actions at the University, which the school’s administration and staff have refused to address in any meaningful way. Just in the past week, students and outside agitators who support Hamas have stormed several buildings at Columbia’s campus in New York, attempting to create a situation similar to what we saw in April of 2024 during the height of the Pro-Hamas/Palestinian demonstrations on college campuses across the United States, in which Pro-Hamas demonstrators broke into and occupied Hamilton Hall, leading to a massive raid by the NYPD resulting in over 100 arrests.

Verbal clashes reportedly erupted during yesterday’s meeting in the Cabinet Room of the White House, between one of U.S. President Trump’s senior advisors Elon Musk, and several department heads, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
According to accounts obtained by the New York Times, Elon Musk lambasted Marco Rubio during yesterday’s Presidential Cabinet meeting, claiming that he had fired nobody suggested by his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), further angering Rubio who already had been privately furious for weeks at Musk, after DOGE effectively shutdown an entire agency, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), which was supposed to be under his purview as head of the State Department. Rubio responded by saying that Musk was not being truthful, pointing out the 1,500 State Department officials who took the buyouts, did they not count? Sarcastically asking if he should bring them back only to make a show out of firing them again. Before then laying out his plans for the State Department. Though Musk is said to have been unimpressed, stating that Rubio was “good on TV” leading the argument between the two to continue as President Trump watched with folded arms. The argument is said to have continued for an uncomfortable amount of time, until it was stopped by Trump, who stated that Secretary Rubio was doing a “great job” and that he is very busy with a lot of things to deal with, including an agency to run.
Secretary Rubio however was not the only department head who had a heated-exchange with Musk that night, with Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy also going at it with Musk only moments before. Duffy and Musk went back and forth over the state of the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA’s) equipment for tracking airplanes and what kind of fix was needed. Howard Lutnick, the commerce secretary, jumped in to support Musk. Duffy then accused Musk’s DOGE of attempting to fire air traffic controllers, “What am I supposed to do? I have multiple plane crashes to deal with now, and your people want me to fire air traffic controllers?” Leading Musk to claim that was a lie, which Duffy refuted; stating he had been told that from them directly. Musk then demanded names, to which Duffy stated there were no names because he had stopped them from being fired. Musk then insisted that people hired under diversity, equity and inclusion programs were working in air traffic control towers, causing Duffy to once again push back. The argument then once again ended following intervention from President Trump, who said to Mr. Duffy that he had to hire people from M.I.T. as air traffic controllers, stating these air traffic controllers need to be “geniuses.”

The Telegraph reports that U.S. President Donald J. Trump is considering the redeployment of most if not all 35,000 active-duty U.S. troops currently stationed in Germany, to Hungary, whose Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is one of Trump’s closest-allies in Europe and has maintained a decent relationship with Russia despite the invasion of Ukraine. Germany houses one of the United States’ largest and most important overseas military installations, Ramstein Air Base, which acts as a logistics hub for U.S. Air Force flights across Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

South Carolina executed an inmate tonight on death row by firing squad for the first time in its history, and for the first time in the United States since 2010. Brad Keith Sigmon, aged 67, who was charged and sentenced to two death sentences for the 2001 duel-murder of David and Gladys Larke, aged 62 and 59, respectively, with a baseball bat; requested execution by firing squad after being scared of both the electric chair and lethal injection. For his final meal, Sigmon requested Kentucky Fried Chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes with gravy, biscuits, cheesecake and sweet tea. Sigmon used his final statement to decry the death penalty, stating that he found it unjustified under the New Testament for him to pay with his life for the murders of David and Gladys Larke, claiming that they were no longer living under the Old Testament and no one had the authority to take lives except for God. The firing squad opened fire at 6:05pm and Brad Keith Sigmon was declared dead at 6:08.
