According to Iraqi government officials, Iraq right now is continuing to import natural gas from Iran despite the expiration today of an energy waiver provided by the United States, adding that they are working on alternative plans in case the gas supply is fully cut-off by Iran due to non-payment. The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity states that they are attempting to obtain another 120-day or longer waiver from the United States, which would allow them to continue purchasing natural gas and other energy imports from Iran that they are dependent on, though they are prepared in case no extension is given; with it expected that the U.S. under the Trump Administration will not grant an extension, as U.S. President Trump has called for a “Campaign of Maximum Pressure” on the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The President of Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa has just given a speech addressing the nation, about what is currently unfolding in the northwest of the country, around the Latakia Governorate, “We are now facing a new danger at this crucial moment, in that the remnants of the other regime, supported by foreign elements, are trying to create another civil war and drag our country towards a civil war in order to divide it, destroy its unity and stability. We know today that the dangers we face today are not just a passing threat but a direct result of the activities of various forces that are trying to perpetuate anarchy and destroy what is left of the homeland. What is happening on the coast is the clearest example of these attempts, and this is not the first time; a month and a half ago, something similar happened and we extinguished it.” Adding that those who have harmed civilians will be held accountable and brought to justice.

As the U.S. Department of Defense begins a plan to layoff thousands of federal employees as part of President Trump’s campaign to cut spending using Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE); roughly 1,000 of those jobs are reported to be at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant (MCAAP) in Oklahoma, one of the largest ammunition depots and munition production facilities in the United States.
Republican Senator James Lankford from Oklahoma, has stated that these cuts at MCAAP, which only employs about 1,800 workers, will have a significant impact on operations at the facility, which produces, repairs and stores a variety of munitions, ranging from the Mark-83 1,000lb Bomb and the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB), to the MIM-23 HAWK Air-Defense Missile.
In addition to MCAAP, Senator Lankford states that 600 federal employees at nearby Tinker Air Force Base, the largest logistics and maintenance center for the U.S. Air Force, would also be laid off as part of the Trump Administration’s plan, emphasizing that the base would not be able to operate with such reductions.
