Canada appears to have now joined Portugal and some other countries in Europe, reconsidering their future or ongoing purchase of U.S-produced F-35 Multirole Strike Fighters due to continually aggressive rhetoric towards allies by the Trump Administration. Canadian Minister of National Defense Bill Blair told CBC News yesterday, that he had spoken with newly appointed Prime Minister Mark Carney and that they were now considering alternatives to the F-35, stating, “Canada is actively looking at potential alternatives to the U.S-built F-35 stealth fighter and will hold conversations with rival aircraft makers.” Further adding, “The prime minister has asked me to go and examine those things and have discussions with other sources, particularly where there may be opportunities to assemble those fighter jets in Canada.”

However unlike Portugal, Canada is a partner in the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program, having already agreed in 2023 to a deal with the U.S. Government and Lockheed Martin to purchase 88 F-35As for the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) at a price of roughly $13 billion; with 16 F-35s having been paid for and expected to be delivered in 2026.

Israeli media has ruled out the possibility of Israeli involvement in the strikes on the Houthi capital of Sana’a, Yemen, compounding on reports from the New York Times that the strikes were carried out by U.S. CENTCOM forces.

The U.S. Air Force and Navy today began a large-scale strike campaign against the Houthi terrorist group in Western Yemen, launching strikes ordered by U.S. President Trump against dozens of targets ranging from air-defense and surface radars, air defense systems, missile and drone systems, as well as underground munition storage sites. According to Senior U.S. Officials, tonight’s strikes were launched by F/A-18 “Super Hornets” from the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) in the Northern Red Sea, as well as Air Force strike aircraft and drones launched from bases across the Middle East; with this only being the start of the operation, as air and naval strikes are expected to continue for several days, intensifying in scope and scale depending on the reaction and response by the Houthis. The operation is also meant as a warning to Iran, as President Trump attempts to get Iran to sign a deal limiting its nuclear and long-range missiles program, while preventing them from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

U.S. President Donald J. Trump announced in a post on Truth Social that he has ordered the military to launch “decisive and powerful Military action against the Houthi terrorists in Yemen.” Adding that strikes are being carried out now on Houthi bases, leaders, and missile defenses to protect American shipping, air, and naval assets, and to restore Freedom of Navigation in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. President Trump then directed a message to both the Houthis and Iran, “To all Houthi terrorists, YOUR TIME IS UP, AND YOUR ATTACKS MUST STOP, STARTING TODAY. IF THEY DON’T, HELL WILL RAIN DOWN UPON YOU LIKE NOTHING YOU HAVE EVER SEEN BEFORE!

To Iran: Support for the Houthi terrorists must end IMMEDIATELY! Do NOT threaten the American People, their President, who has received one of the largest mandates in Presidential History, or Worldwide shipping lanes. If you do, BEWARE, because America will hold you fully accountable and, we won’t be nice about it!”

U.S. President Donald J. Trump has announced that Keith Kellogg will now just be the U.S. Special Envoy to Ukraine, instead of both Russia and Ukraine. Formerly appointed the special envoy for both Russia and Ukraine, Kellogg has been vocal in his support for Ukraine. Given recent reports surrounding Russia’s reported refusal to negotiate with him due to his pro-Ukrainian comments and public stances on the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War, it’s likely that the change in his noscript and remit was done with this in mind.
