The Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem is the holiest site in Christianity, and in 1009 AD, it was deliberately destroyed on the orders of the Fatimid caliph al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah.
The shrine marking Christ's tomb was dismantled stone by stone and shattered down to its foundations. Across the Christian world, news of the destruction spread slowly and cut deeply. Chroniclers and pilgrims cited it as proof that sacred places were unsafe under Muslim rule.
Though the church was later rebuilt, the memory endured, and decades later it would be invoked as one of the grievances that helped drive the call for the First Crusade.
And that? That is why I don’t really care about Mosques being destroyed in Iran.
