Guideline14.StandardizedCriticalCareEEGTerminology.pdf
Denoscription:
Continuous EEG monitoring is an important tool for assessing brain function and allows clinicians to identify malignant EEG patterns quickly and provide more effective care. The revised and updated second edition of Handbook of ICU EEG Monitoring distills the wide range of technical and clinical issues encountered in successful critical care EEG monitoring for the busy practitioner. Written by leading experts in this rapidly evolving field, the handbook incorporates the ground-breaking advances that have impacted practice since publication of the first edition.

Concise chapters break down the fundamentals of EEG acquisition and other technical considerations, clinical indications, EEG interpretation, treatment, and administrative concerns. Entirely new chapters on cardiac arrest in adults, neonatal seizures, periodic and rhythmic patterns, and inter-rater agreement for interpretation in the ICU are included, along with new neonatal guidelines and ACNS adult and pediatric consensus statements. All existing chapters have been revised and updated to include the latest information, and coverage of quantitative EEG (QEEG) is expanded to reflect the expanding role of this technology in reviewing ICU EEG recordings. Formatted for maximum utility with bulleted text and banner heads to reinforce essential information.

Key Features:

Revised and updated second edition encompasses the current scope of clinical practice
Broad but practical reference covering all aspects of ICU EEG monitoring
Six entirely new chapters and many new expert authors and topics
Thorough discussion of the indications for ICU EEG monitoring and prevalence of seizures in patient subgroups
Focuses on the challenges of EEG interpretation that are unique to EEG monitoring in the ICU
Key points and future directions/unanswered questions highlighted in every chapter
Includes hard-to-find information on technical aspects, indications, billing and coding, and other administrative and procedural concerns
Access to downloadable ebook, supplemented with additional EEG and QEEG examples and clinical cases

Computational EEG Analysis: Methods and Applications

Denoscription:
This book introduces and reviews all of the currently available methods being used for computational electroencephalogram (EEG) analysis, from the fundamentals through to the state-of-the-art. The aim of the book is to help biomedical engineers and medical doctors who use EEG to better understand the methods and applications of computational EEG analysis from a single, well-organized resource.
Following a brief introduction to the principles of EEG and acquisition techniques, the book is divided into two main sections. The first of these covers analysis methods, beginning with preprocessing, and then describing EEG spectral analysis, event-related potential analysis, source imaging and multimodal neuroimaging, and functional connectivity analysis. The following section covers application of EEG analysis to specific fields, including the diagnosis of psychiatric diseases and neurological disorders, brain-computer interfacing, and social neuroscience.
Aimed at practicing medical specialists, engineers, researchers and advanced students, the book features contributions from world-renowned biomedical engineers working across a broad spectrum of computational EEG analysis techniques and EEG applications.
Absolute Epilepsy and EEG Rotation Review: Essentials for Trainees

Denoscription:
This book contains the most essential information needed for an epilepsy/ EEG rotation. Chapters are formatted with bullet points and feature clinical pearls. Concise and easy-to-read, this quick reference provides neurology residents, clinical neurophysiology and epilepsy fellows, and other clinicians with the most critical information in epilepsy and EEG in a simplified, yet comprehensive format. Divided into two sections, the book first covers the diagnosis, characteristics, and treatment of epilepsy. The second section focuses on EEG placement, procedures, and patterns in various neurological disorders.
Handbook of EEG Interpretation

Denoscription:
A trusted resource for anyone involved in EEG interpretation, this compact handbook is designed for on-the-go reference. Covering the essential components of EEG in clinical practice, the book provides graphic examples of classic EEG presentations with essential text points of critical information to enhance reading skills to aid in improving patient outcomes. Authored by prominent experts in clinical neurophysiology, this second edition is updated to reflect current advances in ICU and intraoperative monitoring and includes new chapters on polysomnography, status epilepticus, and pediatric EEG.

The Handbook of EEG Interpretation, Second Edition fits in a lab coat pocket to facilitate immediate information retrieval during bedside, OR, ER, and ICU EEG interpretation. It is divided into eight sections that cover all major EEG topics including normal and normal variants, epileptiform and nonepileptiform abnormalities, seizures and status epilepticus, ICU EEG, sleep, and intraoperative monitoring. Each chapter highlights the principal challenges involved with a particular type of EEG interpretation. Consistently formatted and packed with practical tips, this handbook is a highly useful tool for residents, fellows, clinicians, and neurophysiology technologists looking for quick and reliable EEG information, regardless of specialty or level of training. Key Features of "Handbook of EEG Interpretation, Second Edition"

Updated and expanded to reflect advances in clinical EEG applications, including three new dedicated chapters Addresses all areas of EEG interpretation in a concise, pocket-sized, easy-to-access format Provides organized information and a visual approach to identifying EEG waveforms and understanding their clinical significance Presents information consistently for structured review and rapid retrieval Includes practical tips by notable experts throughout

Instrumental Intimacy: EEG Wearables and Neuroscientific Control
Denoscription:
From Fitbits to GPS trackers, wearables promise to help us understand and improve ourselves in quantified ways. We count our steps, track our location, and even monitor our brain waves as we strive to achieve better fitness, clearer direction, or a more focused mind. But why do we rely on wearables to learn about ourselves? In Instrumental Intimacy, Melissa M. Littlefield questions our desire for mechanistic guidance by examining brain-based EEG wearables that promise to improve sleep, relationships, self-knowledge, and learning.

Littlefield focuses specifically on EEGs’ transition out of the laboratory and into the hands of consumers. While other brain-imaging technologies (such as MRI, PET, and MEG) are used only in specialized laboratories, human electroencephalography (a.k.a. EEG) is embedded in portable, user-friendly devices. These direct-to-consumer wearables visualize brain activity as accessible data, and many offer the promise of self-optimization.

Littlefield’s illuminating book brings the histories of EEG to bear on the contemporary development of EEG wearables via case studies of EEG-based sleep aids, bio-mapping instruments, fashionable surveillance tools, and athletic training devices. The author argues that, over the past century, applied uses of EEG helped to create new states of mind to be monitored and manipulated, as well as discourses about the existence of brain waves and their viability as a tool for brain optimization. By contextualizing and analyzing EEG wearables, Instrumental Intimacy provides a crucial intervention in an emergent consumer market and in the scholarly fields of STS, critical neuroscience, and the history of technology.
