🇬🇪🛫🇰🇿 The Kazakh airline "Air Astana" is switching to summer season and increasing the number of flights to Georgia.
Flights between Almaty and Tbilisi will now operate daily. From June, Air Astana resumes flights Almaty-Batumi-Almaty (5 times a week, except Tue and Wed) and Astana-Tbilisi-Astana (3 times a week: Wed, Thu and Sun). All flights are carried out on Airbus A320/321 aircraft.

🇬🇪 🛫 Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced the construction of a new modern airport in Georgia.
So far, he has not announced the place where the project will be implemented, but he said that no more than 2-3 years should pass before the opening:

📉 According to the report of the Public Defender (there is such a position in Georgia - the Ombudsman for Human Rights), in 2022 the situation in terms of protecting human rights worsened.
The 347-page report has already been submitted to the Parliament of the country.

✔️ The abolition of the State Inspector Service and the creation of two independent institutions - the Special Investigation Service and the Personal Data Protection Service
✔️ the Parliament of Georgia did not share the prerequisites developed by the European Union for obtaining candidate status regarding the reform of the judiciary
✔️ the preparation of the draft law of Georgia "On the transparency of foreign influence" (in 2022) and its subsequent initiation are also indicated
✔️ a number of researches have identified significant shortcomings that do not meet the criteria for an effective investigation or violate the right to a fair trial
✔️ regarding the case of ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili, the report notes that the recommendations given by the expert group regarding the conduct of psychotherapy and physical rehabilitation were not / could not be implemented
✔️ In recent years, there has been a trend in the country towards restricting freedom of speech, including unlawful interference with professional activities, damage to property, assault, harassment, threats, violation of privacy, alleged illegal surveillance
✔️ the threat of restrictions on freedom of speech is also aggravated by the amendments to the Law of Georgia “On Broadcasting”, which is confirmed by the number of lawsuits filed in court against media organizations and their representatives
✔️ the right to assemble was limited. The administrative detention of protesters continued, they were accused of petty hooliganism and disobedience to the lawful demands of law enforcement officers. This practice is based on the Code of Administrative Offenses, adopted in 1984, and does not meet even the minimum standard of compatibility with human rights and fundamental freedoms
✔️ the amendments made to the Code of Criminal Procedure on September 6, 2022 (the so-called law on wiretapping) allowed the investigating authorities to carry out covert investigative actions for a longer period of time
✔️ investigation of violent acts against LGBTQ+ people and journalists on July 5, 2021 does not meet the standards of an effective investigation
✔️ the situation with gender-based killings of women (femicide) has not improved for many years
✔️ child poverty remains one of the main problems of the country. Compared to 2021, the number of minors receiving the subsistence minimum increased by 40% in 2022 and amounted to 330,148 people

According to the Union of Georgian Airports, due to bad weather, Smartwings, Israir Airlines and Arkia Israel Airlines planes flying from Tel Aviv landed at Kutaisi International Airport instead of Batumi, from where passengers will be delivered by buses.

But experts do not expect a fall of the lari in 2023: tourism, according to the prerequisites, will exceed the figures of the pre-Covid 2019, and foreign transfers to the country, although they will decrease, will remain at a high level by local standards (about $2 billion).
