🇬🇧If you want to say in Russian «I have …» you should use the phrase «У меня есть …»:

I have … → У меня есть …
You have … → У тебя есть …
He has … → У него есть …
She has … → У неё есть …
We have … → У нас есть …
You have … → У вас есть …
They have … → У них есть …

In the Russian language «есть» is an archaic form of the verb to be in the Present tense. This form is literally translated into English as «there is» / «there are» and is used only in this construction.
«У меня есть журнал» is literally translated into English as «There is a magazine at me». Pay attention that the Russian phrase «у меня» has a broader and more universal meaning than its English equivalent. In this construction «у меня» means «in my life», «in the space of my life».
The verb “to have” is translated into Russian as «иметь» but the literal translation of the English sentence «I have a magazine» (→ «Я имею журнал») doesn't sound natural, for perverted minds even rude. Overall, the verb иметь is more frequent in the official style.
Pay attention, that after the preposition У the object forms of ЕГО, ЕЁ, ИХ begin with the consonant Н:

Он инженер. Его зовут Николай. У него есть машина.
Она секретарь. Её зовут Наташа. У неё есть муж.
Они студенты. Их зовут Артур и Яков. У них сегодня есть урок.

– Да, есть. -Yes, he is.
