e. g. ... the position of manager advertised in yesterday's Herald.
🔹 B) in the main body paragraphs (paras 2-3-4)
• age, present job an d/or studies (e.g. I am a nineteen-year-old university student )
• qualifications (e.g. I have a BA in French.)
• experience (e.g. I have been working as a waiter tor the past two years.)
• skills and personal qualities that are suitable for the job/course
e.g. I am a good and careful driver. I consider myself to be mature and responsible
🔹 C) in the closing remarks
• any other important information (i e. when you are available for interview, where and when you can be contacted, references you can send, a remark that you hope your application will be considered, etc)
e.g. I will be available for interview in September.
I enclose references from my last two employers.
I look forward to hearing from you.
You usually use:
🔅 the present simple to describe skills/personal qualities
❇️ e.g. I am a patient and reliable person.
🔅 the past simple to talk about past experiences
❇️ e.g. I left schoof in 1994. I worked for General Motors for four years.

❌Don’t say…
🔹“I went to the University of Leeds.”
🔹“I entered university when I was 18.”
🔹“I studied in the department of Camel Studies.”
✅Say…
🔹“I went to Leeds Uni.”
🔹“I got into university when I was 18.”
🔹“I did Camel Studies.”
◻️Avoid saying “the University of…” unless it’s a formal situation. Also, you can abbreviate “university” to “uni.” It sounds more friendly!
◻️You don’t “enter” a university (unless you’re walking through the door). Use the phrasal verb “get into,” or simply “start.”
◻️You can say “I studied…” but it’s slightly more natural to say “I did…” It’s more concise.

⚜️ formal linking words/phrases
(consequently, however, therefore, for this reason)
e.g. I have worked as a primary school teacher for ten years and therefore have experience working with children.
⚜️ passive voice
e.g. I can be contacted... (not: You can contact me...)
⚜️ polite forms without contractions
e.g. I would be grateful if...
I would appreciate it if you could...
I would like to apply ... (not I'd like to...)
⏸ Colloquial expressions, phrasal verbs, idioms and short forms are not used in formal style.

fed up
📖 tired, sated, or disgusted beyond endurance, annoyed or disgusted by something that you have experienced for too long:
🌾 We've had one delay after another, and I'm starting to feel pretty fed up.
🌾 Fed up with the noise and bustle of the big city, the family decided to try country life
🌾I’m just fed up with his excuses for not getting his work done.
