We come together to discuss advances in computer science, ground them down to applications, and see where to the wind is blowing. Read the papers at your own time and come discuss them with us. This seminar will be held in English.

1. 3D Data Compression
We'll talk about various tricks researchers & engineers came up with to efficiently store / stream various 3D data. We'll cover:

- Basics of Video Compression
- Animation / mesh compression : from GDC and a paper
- For 3D Gaussian Splatting: post1 and post2
- For video NeRFs

2. Differential privacy
DP is a framework for private data analysis at scale used by Apple and other bigtech to facilitate data analysis while minimising legal risk.

- Intro and statistical background
- Adaption to DL
- Validity analyses [1, 2]
- Tightening bounds

Мы будем слушать болгарские народные песни из Bulgarian Fake Book, будем обсуждать их структуру и попробуем постепенно построить нашу модель отличий болгарской (и вообще балканской) народной музыки от усреднённой западной традиции. Introduction to internals of Git version control system by example

@alurm will be demonstrating internals of Git.

Using a sample repository, we'll take a close look at the contents of .git folder.

We'll talk about hash trees in Git, content addressability in Git, primary objects types (trees, blobs, commits), branches, index file and more.

1. Automatic Censorship Evasion

Internet censorship becomes ever more advanced. Geneva is an approach for automatically discovering censorship evasion strategies. Let's learn how it works!

2. Backdoors in VIA x86 CPUs

We find internal control registers can enable the user to bypass security mechanisms, e.g., allowing ring 0 access at ring 3 in some common commercial VIA CPUs. At the seminar, we'll discuss how deep we need to dig into CPU to find a hidden backdoor/bug and which instruments we have for this. Paper, talk.

ACT is a therapy identified by the American Psychological Association as an empirically supported treatment for depression, anxiety, and OCD.

But how much empirically supported? We examine classical results and recent critiques.

2. Microservices security redux

* best practices of container security (JWT, mTLS, fine grained access control)
* security architectures for flexible authorization
* generalize ABAC to RiskBAC

В 2023 году Брэтт Клемент выпустил книгу "Rock Tonality Amplified" с вдохновляющим меня оглавлением. Перед тем, как подступиться к ней, я хочу прочитать одну его статью.

Статья про прогрессив-рок - про композиции группы Yes. Кажется, автор применяет transformational theory для объяснения, как внутри трэка меняются гаммы (scales). У меня есть умеренный скептицизм к transformational theory, так что наша задача - понять, нам втюхивают эзотерику или нет.

Перед лекцией советую послушать композиции, которые упомянуты справа в Examples - особенно "And You and I" и "Roundabout". Проще разбирать то, что уже в вас сидит.
