Yep… that was close! 😳
Impressive commitment by the cameraman 😲

Piastri reached 361km/h in the #MexicoGP  ! He had frequent slipstreams and DRS opportunities during his recovery drive

Mercedes’ top speed was very high, too: 359km/h for HAM and RUS

Ferrari had the lowest one: SAI used the DRS on the main straight just once, overtaking VER!

💡MAIN CHANGES (vs 2023) #BrazilianGP

More performance:
~Softer compounds (C2-C4➡️C3-C5)

Less performance:
~0.25deg less camber (Front: 3.25➡️3deg; Rear: 2➡️1.75deg)
~1psi (0.07bar) higher minimum pressure (Front: 23➡️24psi, Rear: 21➡️22psi)

The medium- and high-speed corners should suit @McLarenF1

What’s YOUR prediction? 🤔

São Paulo Rear Wings:

💡McLaren has a new wing:
- the lower plane is the most shallow of any team➡️low drag;
- the upper plane is one of the most loaded➡️high downforce.
Likely target: maximum DRS effectiveness! 🎯

Higher load: Aston/Alpine
Medium load: McL/RBR/Merc/Ferrari
Lower load: Williams/RacingB

📊SPRINT QUALIFYING DATA

🟠 McLaren's new wing finally reduced their drag - but their downforce was still excellent!
🔴 Leclerc's exit from T12 was excellent, but they now have a top speed deficit (-3km/h) vs McL
🔵 Verstappen: excellent braking;
⚪️ Bearman: highest top speed

1) BEST SECTOR TIMES:
McL dominated Sectors 1 (where Ferrari struggled) and 2 (Excellent downforce with the new wing)!
LEC and BEA quicker than PIA in S3 (where VER struggled).
The quickest Aston lost 1.17s to a Haas in Sector 2 alone!

2) TOP SPEEDS:
Haas on top: 333km/h
McL, RBR: 331
Ferrari, Mercedes: 328

3) MINISECTORS (PIA vs VER vs LEC):
PIA dominated the lap up to T4, but VER and LEC were quicker after that.
VER's braking was excellent.

Game on for the Sprint! 🤩

TOP SPEEDS AND GAP TO NORRIS - SPRINT

🟠McL: highest drag with the DRS closed (Just 322km/h for PIA).
🔴Ferrari: highest drag with the DRS open ('Just' 338km/h for LEC with DRS + tow).
⬇️
McL's new rear wing made their DRS very effective!

⚫️HAM: 355km/h during his recovery drive.

RACE PACE

VER's masterpiece (winning from P17) through sheer pace crushed NOR's noscript hopes (62 points back with 3 races left).

He averaged 0.19s/lap quicker than RUS and 0.30s/lap quicker than NOR with one less tyre set!

Alpine impressed: OCO was faster than LEC stopping once less.

How Lando Norris lost to GeorgeRussell at the start?👇

1) Too much throttle at ~50km/h
2) Rear tyres spun (rpm increased quickly)
3) The wheelspin reduced their grip➡️Acceleration got worse
4) To compensate, he could not go full-throttle
5) Less power ➡️ Less acceleration

Notice that the acceleration (the slope of the ‘Speed’ graph) increases over time: the faster the car is going, the more downforce it produces, the more grip it has, and the more quickly it can gain speed!

Verstappen brilliantly won after starting P17, yet his top speed was far from stellar: only 8th fastest💡
He probably ran a more loaded wing than PER.

Ferrari and Mercedes were quickest in the speed trap (on average), particularly SAI and HAM.

Sauber's drag was off the charts!

In the dry (SQ3), RedBull was quickest at Turn 6 (232km/h) by a good margin! (+8km/h vs 2nd best - Ferrari)➡️Still unmatched high-speed downforce.

McL was quickest in the rain (158km/h); RBR slowest! (152km/h, -80km/h vs in the dry).

The laps are from the same session (Q2, before the red flag)➡️same track conditions.

The red flag timing hurt VER, yet the car underperformed in qualifying.
(Race-focused setup? Low tyre temp?)

Who will win in Las Vegas? 👀

A very cool comparison of the size of many famous racetracks: Las Vegas is HUGE! 😮

The main straight is 500m longer than Monza's... including the 'Parabolica' corner!

MCL38: an extremely grippy and versatile car, with a wide setup window (enabling it to be competitive everywhere... but dominant only in the absence of very long straights).

Medium-speed corners (like in Zandvoort) suit the car best, but slower and faster corners pose no problem.
