VER lost over *8 TENTHS* to NOR on the straights... but only part of that is due to their sub-optimal wing!😳

Turns 4 and 12: VER's exit was good, yet he starts losing immediately➡️Detuned engine.

The inefficient wing then hurts him more and more as the speed (and drag) grows.

Red Bull will turn up the engine come quali, but the cost-saving trimmed wing is hurting them more than expected (and that cannot be solved)!

Check out my profile for many analyses on the Las Vegas GP! 🏎

*Note for the nerds:
We can say that RBR had less power and also more drag because the 'gap' increases linearly. If it simply had more drag, the gap would only increase at high speed. If it simply had less power, the gap would increase less at high speed. RBR had both.

RUS got P1, yet Mercedes' top speed (347km/h) was the lowest (same as RBR): unmatched downforce, gaining in all the corners!👌

Ferrari and Alpine:
- Lowest drag (354km/h!)👍
- Decent downforce

McL: No strengths

RBR: High drag, but less downforce than Merc (Inefficient wing)

Las Vegas GP: FP2 LONG RUNS

10 drivers within 1s of the fastest! (🟠PIA) ➡️ Different fuel loads/engine modes obfuscate the pecking order

Despite being slow in FP2's quali simulation, 🔵RedBull was quick in the long runs (normally it's the opposite)

🟣Alpine's pace looks solid!

In the race that crowned Verstappen 4x WDC, his former rival impressed the most: Lewis Hamilton was just 0.02s/lap slower than RUS (who managed a bit) despite being stuck in traffic!

Car Pace (faster driver only)
🥇Merc
🥈Ferrari +0.15s/lap
🥉RBR +0.24s/lap
4️⃣ McL +0.43s/lap

Tyre deg was much higher than expected: on Mediums Ferrari's deg in particular was incredibly high (and Mercedes and partly RBR were miles ahead of them).

On Hards Ferrari got the better hand on RBR and matched Mercedes.

GAS was quick, while OCO struggled.

TSU almost matched PER!

No matter who you are or the compound you're running: there's always a Mercedes faster than you!🔥

Their pace advantage declined from a mind-blowing 0.66s/lap to 0.06s/lap as the fuel load dropped💡

Las Vegas' cold weather suited Mercedes: if only it were more consistent!😬

Unbelievable: the slipstream made Gasly's Alpine self-destruct!💥(Not his fault)

⚫️Lap 13 (Reference)
🟣Lap 14 (Failure)

He got a strong tow from TSU, reaching 361km/h under DRS: the engine reached 12937rpm in 8th gear, then exploded! (Speed dropping, no power afterwards)

The gear ratios are fixed for all tracks: Alpine's last gear is short, and the engine couldn't resist the resulting high rpm (and the hot air from TSU's car didn't help either)

Albon reached 369km/h during the #LasVegasGP: higher than any other driver this season! (Equalling Vettel's 2019 Monza top speed in the 'godly-engined' SF90).

He reached 13194rpm in 8th gear: 257rpm more than Gasly before his engine gave out.

He later retired (3rd race in a row).

QATAR PREVIEW - A REAL TYRE-KILLER! 🔥

Very high, sustained lateral forces➡️Even the hardest compounds (C1-C3) will suffer, esp. the front left (Understeer➡️Wear➡️More Understeer➡️More Wear...)

Downforce is crucial.
Drag is secondary (helpful to battle).
Bodes well for McLaren.

Red Bull's VERY detuned engine, and not the 'cut' wing, hurt their FP2 straight-line performance the most💡

💡Wings For Qatar GP (Tyre-killer track!)

Teams opted for medium-high load wings:
-Downforce is crucial for cornering performance and to manage the tyres
-Drag is not as impactful, but if excessive it impairs ability to attack/defend

Most loaded: ⚪️Haas
Least loaded: 🔴Ferrari?

Sauber seems to be on a similar level to Haas, too.

🔥Ferrari's pace looks real!

LEC had more downforce than NOR: he gained over 0.2s from Turn 12 to 15 (the fastest ones) alone!
T14: 254km/h NOR, 269 LEC (+15).

💡Drag, however, was no higher: 🔴317km/h vs 🟠318 top speed.

Image 2):
The impact of the rear wing configuration is crazy! (Red Bull had the highest top speed, +10km/h vs Sauber, yet it was 8km/h slower than it in T6).

Time to decide: what's YOUR prediction? 🤔
11👍2🤔1
Hear this: Lando Norris got pole but his top speed was the worst! 😳

🟠McL lost time in the straights (high drag), but it was extremely quick everywhere else!

Better top speed for 🔵RedBull (+6km/h) and 🔴Ferrari (+5)... which matters less in Qatar.

🟣Alpine: a rocket, again!

FP1 LONG RUNS

Ferrari did the longest long runs and were quickest until they backed off (Lap 15).

FP1 conditions (Hotter, dirtier track) might have advantaged them: expect McL to be on the same pace!

RedBull was pushing way less (much slower and always improving lap times.

In the past few races the Hards have performed better than the Mediums after just a few laps, which might make Ferrari’s pace look slightly better than it really is.

QATAR GP - SPRINT

1) RACE PACE:
HUL was within 0 .3s/lap of NOR: that's how much NOR was limiting his pace!➡️Just 0.01s/lap within SAI/RUS/PIA.

VER sandwiched by the two Haas.

2) BEST SECTORS:
LEC got the fastest S1 and S3 (and the fastest lap), but the pace in S2 (the slow one) must be fixed.
