Alonso's car did not deploy the ERS at the restart, and he was immediately overtaken by HAM💡

He then successfully drained the battery, but that wasn't enough to keep TSU behind (ALO lost 0.35s to him up to the braking point alone, and his speed deficit was as large as 17km/h)!

🛠ABU DHABI PREVIEW!

Very complete track: 2 long straights, several traction and strong braking zones, low/medium/high-speed corners.

The most complete package will win!

Compared to Qatar, Ferrari should be more competitive vs McL (VER likely to be in the mix).

Can Ferrari win the WCC? 🤔

🟠McL and 🔵RedBull seem more hesitant than ⚫️Mercedes and 🔴Ferrari about the right wing to use:

- NOR and PER will use a less loaded version (like Ferrari's);
- A more loaded one for PIA and VER (like Mercedes'): notice the deeper spoon and the more vertical upper plane.

In their respective fastest laps, RBR's top speed was TWELVE km/h higher than McL's - but there's a catch!🧐

Both tested two wing specs
🔵RBR:
-Low Drag 332km/h
-High Downforce 326
🟠McL:
-Low-Drag 324
-High Down 320

Still, McLaren with low-drag wing still 6km/h slower than RedBull with the high-downforce one!

Remember that this is FP1, so still early days (teams are running quite detuned PU modes in general).

LEC was on a higher engine mode than McL and RBR, it seems. Then RBR, and lastly McL.

FP2 DATA HIGHLIGHTS

🟠Norris quickest in all sectors, as⚪️Hulk already beat his own '23 quali P8 lap.

McL's overall grip (cornering + braking) was excellent.

🔴Ferrari braked less intensely struggling in Sectors 1 and 2.

1) BEST SECTOR TIMES:
McL has one hand on the WCC already.
Next quickest: Mercedes (HAM) in S1, Haas (HUL) in S2/3.

2) GRIP (g-g diagram):
Similar max lateral grip for the 3 teams.
Under braking: McL > Haas > Ferrari.

3) NOR vs HUL Telemetry:
HUL had a good showing, but could not keep up with NOR out of the fast T1 and in the various braking zones ➡️ Less downforce.
👍10👀1
McL has a downforce edge over Ferrari (so far).

NOR sustained a 7km/h higher minimum speed in the fast Turn 1 vs SAI (+9 vs HAM)➡️His lateral g-forces were highest.

SAI: slow in, fast out;
NOR: fast in... fast out!

A bit more drag, however:
top speeds 324km/h NOR, 327 SAI.

🧐ANALYSING HULK'S SUPER P4 AND VER'S OVERSTEER

HUL braked more intensely (🟡in yellow) than VER; his minimum speed was higher too (74 vs 71)
Still, he matched his top speed (329) and straight-line performance! (🟣purple arrows).

Verstappen's huge oversteer (🔴red) cost him the front row (and ~2tenths): he was ahead of HUL, SAI, and even PIA before that!

VER could brake less and later, gaining primarily in the braking points.

Haas built a beast of a car, and finally unlocked its potential in the 2nd half of the season! 👏

3-places grid drop for HULK: extremely unfortunate.
His P4 in qualifying was not due to luck he was also quickest (by far) in the FP2 long runs!

He and COL were on Softs (others on Mediums). HUL did 8 consecutive push laps, 6 tenths quicker than VER's '23 race-winning pace.🔥

Deg was under control, too: his slowest lap was still quicker than the quickest lap by any other driver (By PIA and HAM)!

That was best chance at his long-awaited first podium.

Fastest on Mediums: PIA, then HAM and NOR.

RBR and Ferrari were slower.

RACE PACE Abu Dhabi GP

Considering each team's faster driver (M-H for all):
🥇McL
🥈Ferrari +0.11s/lap
🥉Merc+0.50s/lap (traffic)
4️⃣RBR +0.57s/lap (traffic)

Goodbye to a fantastic season, but the next one is looking spicy!

I hope my analyses kept you company during this one! ❤️

🟠McL ended their slump, winning their first WCC in TWENTY-SIX years! (Before many current drivers were born)

🔵VER won the WDC with the 3rd car in the WCC: drivers DO make the difference

🔴Ferrari gave it everything and can smile thinking about ‘25 (HAM, too!)

Your opinion?👀

Hamilton's last-lap overtake on Russell allowed him to score more points than his teammate during their time together!💥

2022-2024:
RUS 695 points
HAM 697 (+2)

- RUS scored more points this season, and also in 2022;
- HAM out-scored him only in 2023 (but by a big margin).

The most balanced lineup on the grid (and one of the best).

They both will have new teammates next year: Antonelli for Russell, and Leclerc for Hamilton.

Comparing the two to their new teammates will give us more information about the strength of all 4.

ANALYSIS - TSU STUCK ON GRID

Weird start: looked fine until 20km/h, but then:
-Throttle quickly dropped to 0📉
-Yet, rpm INCREASED📈
-Speed increased very slowly (transmission creep?)

TSU: "99% sure it was clutch/anti-stall"
0-100km/h in 6.5s: many BMWs would beat that!😳

“It became pretty clear that when I came into the pit lane and when I pulled the clutch, the gear didn’t go to neutral smoothly. So, something definitely going on there"

SF-71H (2018)

"The flawless beast killed by updates"

Low drag, powerful engine, good race pace, and excellent downforce for 2/3 of the season.

Ferrari's Singapore updates made it SLOWER, and they had to revert specs a few races later, losing the championship.

"Race-monster, killed by reliability/TDs"

Best downforce on the grid (but high drag) and engine power, excellent race pace, versatile.

Suffered from reliability (the team was forced to turn down the power) and the TD039 damaged its setup window.
