W14 ('23) "The Test-Bed" Massive change in-season: starting from Monaco, the team abandoned the 'zero-pod' concept in favour of a more traditional design. This didn't solve all their problems, however (drag was still high), and Alonso stole them many points.…
W15 ('24)
"A New Start"

The project was 'ambitious' (James Allison), changing the concepts for aerodynamics, chassis design, and weight distribution.
Suspension design was different, too (Pull-rod➡️Push-rod).

Terrible season start, but pace improved mid-season.

McL reached the bottom in 2017, scoring just 30 points, retiring 13 times, and finishing 9th in the WCC

Since the ground-effect era (MCL36, 2022) they've doubled (!) their WCC points each year, winning the 2024 championship!

The comeback history that you cannot miss: read on!👇

"Yet another failure"

In the 3rd year of the MCL-Honda cooperation, performance was no better than in the 1st.🚨

Honda's dyno couldn't simulate racing conditions: The engine 'Self-destructed' under its own vibrations➡️Had to run detuned.

"The world's fastest brick"

McL went into the ground-effect era with 4years of experience with the Renault PU.

Their first car was decent (5th in WCC), but was held back by very high drag.

A solid base for a championship-winning car, however.

"Cinderella"

McL's launch version had terrible aero (due to floor reg change): little downforce, tons of drag.

They reacted promptly: the 'B-version' had much better downforce and overall performance.

And that was just the beginning...

"The Beast"

An evolution of MCL60: very high downforce (best car in medium-speed corners) but still high drag.
Miami's upgrade solved its low-speed issues; at season-end, its drag and tyre wear issues were solved.

Is this just the beginning?

27.8 Pts/GP, 1st in WCC!

What will the future hold for Red Bull? 👀

1) RB16B ended a 7-season noscript-less slump ('14-'20).
2) Used that momentum to design the most successful F1 car ever (RB19: 21/22 wins!👌).
3) Great start in '24, but strong decline since.🚨

"HONDA back on top"

Evolution of RB16 (hence the 'B' in the name)
The regulated floor area and diffuser design hit them less than Mercedes.

Third year with Honda, and the first one winning a noscript.

Aero-efficient, strong ERS, versatile.

"Ground-Effect Mastery"

RBR aced the new regulations:
- Best concept.
- Intense, effective development (Redesigned sidepods, significant weight reduction, improved reliability).
- Limited porpoising.

Low drag, best floor on the grid➡️WCC🏆

"Flawless"

Strong everywhere:
- Best aero (Low drag AND high downforce: the 'Holy Grail' of aerodynamics).
- Most effective DRS.
- Powerful, reliable engine.

The only weakness? PER (Who still won 2 out of the 3 races that VER didn't win).

"Party Ended Early"

RedBull's 2024 downfall will go down in history:
- Best (almost RB19-level) until Austria.
- Only 3rd fastest afterwards.

3 possibilities:
- RBR was exploiting a grey area;
- Botched development;
- Others catching up quickly.

Team points (‘21-24)

🔴 Ferrari lost points in ‘23 compared to ‘22, but recovered well in ‘24.

🟠 Even McLaren had a setback (in ‘22: first year of new regulations).

🟢 Mercedes declined ‘21 to ‘23; minor recovery in ‘24.

🔵 Big downfall for RBR in ‘24: recovery around the corner?
