Al-Ma'idah 5:52

And you see those in whose hearts there is a disease (of hypocrisy), they hurry to their friendship, saying: "We fear lest some misfortune of a disaster may befall us." Perhaps Allah may bring a victory or a decision according to His Will. Then they will become regretful for what they have been keeping as a secret in themselves.

Prioritizing Importance

Many times you will find quotes of the Salaf from the times of the Tabi'een and the Atba’ Tabi'een often speaking about sufficing oneself with ‘Ibādah, seeking ‘ilm, reciting Qur'ān etc. And these quotes are very popular nowadays compared to the sayings of the salaf on Islamic reform.

You see, during the time of the Tabi'een and the generation after that, Islam was still pure - the sahābah directly learned from the Prophet ﷺ, the tabi'een directly learned from the sahābah and the atba’ at-tabi'een directly learned from the students of the sahābah. These 3 generations tasted the pure unadulterated Islam, and whenever innovations tried creeping in there were men of knowledge and action who quickly sought to overcome such issues.
They already had an Islamic Empire under which they lived, enjoying the justice of Shari'ah.

You will seldom find any reformist movements in the 2 generations after the sahābah because they already had the foundations of the Imamate laid down for them by the sahābah - Islam was at that time a blooming flower in its peak. And thus you find their quotes on focusing more on personal reform than social reform.

But in our times, that isn’t the case. Unlike the first 3 generations of Islam, Muslims today suffer from a huge problem of identity crisis. They have left their religion behind in pursuit of the Western culture. And this admiration of the disbelievers and their culture has led to the crumbling of the most fundamental concepts of the deen and a distortion in people’s understanding of Tawheed.

In today’s era, merely talking and preaching about self-reform is not sufficient. We must speak about social reform as well because it is a more pressing need. And by Allah talking will do no good without actions. The Muslims are humiliated everywhere, they have lost their sense of honour, Ahlus Sunnah are being oppressed from every corner, the crusaders have entered the Holy Lands of Haramayn, Al Quds is still under Zionist control, our Ulama are locked away behind bars, idolatry has been reintroduced into the Arabian Peninsula, Muslims are being bombed from left right and center, and you want to talk about merely looking into Bukhari and Muslim, reciting Qur'ān, praying the fardh and khalas this is sufficient?

Lā Wallāh, this is not sufficient. This isn’t the attitude of the Muslims neither is this the manhaj of Sahābah رضي الله عنهم. They never stayed silent in the face of injustice and oppression. Self-reform in this era is not sufficient because we will be asked on Yawmal Qiyāmah about what we did to aid this mighty deen when its ummah was bleeding from every side.

So my brothers and sisters, prioritize. Prioritize what you learn and prioritize in what you preach. There must be a balance and the utmost importance should be given to tawheed and that which is necessary to wake this ummah from its heedlessness and bring back the honour to Islam and the Muslimeen.

Via al-Istiqama

Self Reform and Social Reform must be done simultaneously. Your self reform should be putting you in the first row defending/aiding Muslims

“The Muslim Is Just Like a Bee!”

The Muslim, a believer in the lethal society he lives in, that’s filled with the poison of corruption and havoc all over, spreading rapidly, should forbid the evil and enjoin the good. In a society that seeks nothing else but to corrupt the innocence of the people and tare down the pureness and justice system of the Shari’ah, leaving no remanence of goodness and sparing none, he should stand steadfast like a bulwark. The comparison of a believer especially in such circumstances - as our beloved Shaykh Musa Jibril always taught and embodied - is supposed to be like that of a bee, all the time giving honey - spreading good wherever it goes. He is supposed to be an agent for the preservation of virtues and modesty, goodness and faith wherever he goes, and eliminate the vices.
