Shaykh ibn 'Uthaymin رحمه الله said :

"If you see yourself relapse/deteriorate, pick yourself up by repenting and seeking Alläh's forgiveness and by asking Him to keep you firm, and don't become careless, and neither say,
"Inshä'Alläh, my iman will become stronger" (without doing anything about it).
Instead from right now - from the moment you feel that you are ill - you must implement the cure.

It was said to Imam Hasan al-Basri رحمه الله:

"A man sins, then he repents, then he sins, then he repents, then he sins, then he repents, until he dies.
He said: "I do not know this being anything but the characteristics of the believers."

Ar-Rum 30:41
ظَهَرَ ٱلۡفَسَادُ فِى ٱلۡبَرِّ وَٱلۡبَحۡرِ بِمَا كَسَبَتۡ أَيۡدِى ٱلنَّاسِ لِيُذِيقَهُم بَعۡضَ ٱلَّذِى عَمِلُواْ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَرۡجِعُونَ

Evil (sins and disobedience of Allah, etc.) has appeared on land and sea because of what the hands of men have earned (by oppression and evil deeds, etc.), that Allah may make them taste a part of that which they have done, in order that they may return (by repenting to Allah, and begging His Pardon).

(41) މީސްތަކުންގެ އަތްތަކުން ކުރިކަންތަކުގެ ސަބަބުން (އުރެދުންތަކުގެ ސަބަބުން) އެއްގަމާއި ކަނޑުގައި ފަސާދަ އުފެދިއްޖެއެވެ. އެބަހީ: މީސްތަކުން ކުރި އުރެދުމާއި ފާފައިގެ ސަބަބުން އެއްގަމާއި ކަނޑުގައި އަނިޔާތައް އުފެދި ފެތުރިއްޖެއެވެ. އެއީ އެމީހުންކުރެ ބައެއްމީހުން ކުރި ކަންތަކުގެ ނުބައިކަމުގެ ރަހަ އެމީހުންނަށް ދެއްކެވުމަށްޓަކައެވެ. އެއީ އެމީހުން ތިބި ނުބައިގޮތް ދޫކޮށް اللّه އަށް رجوع ވުމުގެ أمّيد ގައެވެ.
