🌘 Concerning The One Who Is Present At ʿIshāʾ on Laylat al-Qadr

❝ Whoever is unable to pray qiyām in the last ten nights with a clear excuse, and prays ʿIshāʾ and Fajr in congregation, shall receive the reward of praying qiyām in the last ten and attain Laylat-ul-Qadr. This is authentically attributable to Ibn al-Musayyab and others, and the blessings of Allah reach far and wide.❞ —Al-Ṭārīfī

Benefit:

ʿUthmān bin ʿAffān رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ reported:

I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying: “One who performs ʿIshāʾ prayer in congregation, is as if he has performed prayer for half of the night. And one who performs the Fajr prayer in congregation, is as if he has performed prayer the whole night.”

And Mālik narrated in Al-Muwaṭṭaʾ from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyab, that he used to say, “Whoever is present at ʿIshāʾ on Laylat al-Qadr has taken his portion from it.”

Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr said: Ibn al-Musayyab’s statement cannot be considered as a personal opinion, and should be taken only as a mawqūf statement (from the companions). Besides, his mursal narrations (where the name of the companion is omitted) are considered amongst the most authentic ones.

Al-Shāfiʿī رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ said: “Whoever witnesses the ʿIshāʾ and Fajr prayers of Laylat al-Qadr, he has taken his portion from it.”

Ibn Khuzaymah said in his Ṣaḥīḥ : [Chapter mentioning the statement that the one who attains the ʿIshāʾ prayer in congregation on Laylat al-Qadr is considered as one who attains the Laylat al-Qadr] He then brought a report which is similar to the above.

I should have done more. I shouldn’t have wasted my time. These are regrets we are all familiar with. However, we still have precious hours remaining. Let us make the most of them.

The Prophet ﷺ said, “Indeed, deeds are only judged by their endings” [Bukhārī]

Ibn al-Jawzī (raḥimahullāh) writes:

“When the race horse knows that it is nearing the end of the track, it exerts all of its effort to win the race. Do not allow the race horse to be cleverer than you. Indeed, deeds are judged by their conclusions. Thus, if you didn’t do well with welcoming Ramaḍān then perhaps you will do better bidding it farewell.”
——————

Ibn Rajab (raḥimahullāh) reminds us:

“O Servants of Allah! Ramaḍān is ending, and very little of it remains: whoever from you spent it well should finish it the same way; and whoever is falling behind should finish it in the best manner, for the reward of actions are determined by their ending.”
—————

Let us not waste these last precious moments doing Eid preparations. Let us not become complacent about attending the tarāwīḥ prayers, just because the imām has finished the recitation (khatm) of the Qur’ān.

Al-Ma'idah 5:11

O you who believe! Remember the Favour of Allah unto you when some people desired (made a plan) to stretch out their hands against you, but (Allah) withheld their hands from you. So fear Allah. And in Allah let believers put their trust.

Beautiful poetry of Imam ash-Shafi'i

tazūlu ‘ani ’d-dunyā fa’innaka la tadrī, idhā janna ‘alayka ’l-laylu hal ta‘īshu ila ’l-fajri
You are fading away from the world whilst you do not know; if you are enshrouded by the night, will you live until the morning?

fakam min ṣaḥīḥin māta min ghayri ‘illatin, wa kam min saqīmin ‘āsha ḥīnan mina ’d-dahri
For how many were the healthy who died without a reason, and how many were the sick who lived for a long time?

wa kam min fatā amsā wa aṣbaḥa ḍāḥikan, wa akfānuhu fi ’l-ghaybi tunsaju wa huwa lā yadrī
And how many were the youth who spent the morning and evening in laughter, while their shrouds were being woven in the Unseen and they were unaware?

wa kam min ṣighārin yurtajā ṭūlu ‘umrihim, wa qad udkhilat ajsāmuhum ẓulmata ’l-qabri
And how many were the young boys whose long lives were being anticipated, but indeed their bodies were entered into the darkness of the grave?

wa kam min ‘arūsin zayyanūhā lizawjihā, wa qad qubiḍat arwāḥuhum laylata ’l-qadrī
And how many were the brides who adorned themselves for their husbands, but their souls were snatched on the appointed night?

faman ‘āsha alfan aw alfayni, falā budda min yawmin yasīru ila ’l-qabri
For whoever lives for (even) a thousand years or two thousand, there must be a day when they go to the grave.

Reminder:

Tonight is 27th night. May Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى give us the tawfeeq to make the most out of our time.
Ameen

Al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated from `Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that

when the last ten days of Ramadan began, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would stay up at night, wake his family and tie his lower garment tight. According to Ahmad and Muslim: “he would strive hard in worship during the last ten nights of Ramadan as he did not do at other times.”

Recite powerful Zikr frequently such as

Freeing Ten slaves, 100 Rewards, 100 Sins taken away

None has the right to be worshipped except Allaah, alone, without any partner, to Him belong all sovereignty and praise, and He is over all things omnipotent.

Whoever recites this hundred times in the morning, Allah swt will reward him of freeing ten slaves, Allah will write one hundred Hasanat and and forgive him one hundred misdeeds and be protected from Satan until evening.

[1] An-Nasa'i, Abu Dawud 4/319, Ibn Majah, Ahmad 4/60.
[2] Al-Bukhari 4/95, Muslim 4/2071.

Recite Surah Ikhlaas frequently 1/3rd of Quran

From Qatadah ibn al-Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) who said

that a man stayed up to worship Allah at the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) just before dawn and recited Qul huwa Allahu ahad, but did not recite anything else.

In the morning, the man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and told him about this, thinking that perhaps he was not doing enough. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, it is equivalent to one-third of the Quran.

(al-Bukhari, 4627).

Treasure of Paradise

Abdullaah Ibn Qays (radhi-yAllaahu 'anhu) related that The Prophet (sal-Allaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) said to him:

O 'Abdullaah Ibn Qays, shall I not inform you of a treasure from the treasures of paradise?

He (sal-Allaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) then said: Say:

لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللّٰهِ

There is no might nor power except with Allaah.

Al-Bukhari , Muslim 4/2076

〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️

“Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) urged us to spend the night of Laylat al-Qadr in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward.

On Laylat al-Qadr, you can
read the Quran,
observe i’tikaf,
pray qiyam al-layl, and
give charity."
