📢 🇮🇷 🇲🇦 Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claim they can shut down the Strait of Gibraltar, which links the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea.
🔶️ “They shall soon await the closure of the Mediterranean Sea, (the Strait of) Gibraltar and other waterways,” Tasnim quoted Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqdi, coordinating commander of the Guards, as saying.
🔶️ Iran has no direct access to the Mediterranean itself and it was not clear how the Guards could attempt to close it off, although Naqdi talked of “the birth of new powers of resistance and the closure of other waterways.”
🔶️ “Yesterday, the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz became a nightmare for them, and today they are trapped … in the Red Sea,” Naqdi was quoted as saying.

— 🇾🇪/🇺🇳 NEW: After 9 years, all factions in the Yemeni civil war have reached an agreement to work towards a permanent settlement end to the conflict - UN
According to Hans Grundberg, special UN rapporteur to Yemen, the warring factions, including the Houthis & the internationally recognized Yemeni government, have agreed on three basic steps towards peace:
1. A permanent nationwide ceasefire.
2. The improvement of basic living conditions throughout the country.
3. An inclusive political process under UN supervision.
According to informed sources, negotiations regarding the political future of Yemen as a unified nation will begin in 2024, with a real possibility being the restoration of the country to its pre-1990 borders, which would mean the Houthis gaining legitimate rule over much of Western Yemen.

🇬🇧 🇬🇾 🇻🇪 ‘The UK is preparing to send a warship to Guyana in a show of diplomatic and military support for the former British colony, the BBC has learned…HMS Trent would take part in joint exercises after Christmas’
🔶️ The UK is preparing to send a warship to Guyana in a show of diplomatic and military support for the former British colony, the BBC has learned.
🔶️ It comes after neighbouring Venezuela renewed its claim for a disputed part of Guyanese territory that is rich in oil and minerals.
🔶️ The Ministry of Defence confirmed HMS Trent would take part in joint exercises after Christmas.
🔶️ Guyana, a Commonwealth member, is South America's only English-speaking nation.
🔶️ This raised fears that Venezuela might invade and spark the first interstate war in South America since the Falklands Conflict in 1982.
🔶️ While Guyana's economy is growing fast, Venezuela's is suffering. Its hills and jungles are rich in gold, diamonds and bauxite, while huge oil deposits have been found off its coast.
🔶️ A Ministry of Defence spokesperson told the BBC: "HMS Trent will visit regional ally and Commonwealth partner Guyana later this month as part of a series of engagements in the region during her Atlantic Patrol Task deployment."

❄️ 🇺🇸 🇷🇺 In 1867, the United States made a bold move by purchasing the vast territory of Alaska from Russia for $7.2 million, which equated to about 2 cents per acre. This historic deal, known as the Alaska Purchase or Seward's Folly, was spearheaded by U.S. Secretary of State William Seward. Despite the initial skepticism and ridicule, the Alaska Purchase would prove to be a wise investment, as the state's vast natural resources, including oil, gold, and more, would make it worth well over $500 billion today.
The mid-19th century was a time of significant territorial expansion for the United States. The country had recently acquired vast amounts of land through the Louisiana Purchase in 1803 and the Mexican-American War in 1848. In 1867, the U.S. government saw an opportunity to further expand its territory when Russia expressed interest in selling its Alaskan territory.
The negotiations for the Alaska Purchase were led by U.S. Secretary of State William Seward. Seward was a strong proponent of American expansion and believed that acquiring Alaska would strengthen the U.S. position in the Pacific region. Despite facing considerable opposition and criticism from the public, who thought the deal was a waste of money and resources, Seward managed to secure the purchase of Alaska for $7.2 million.
The Alaska Purchase was initially met with widespread skepticism and ridicule. Many people, including some members of Congress, believed that the U.S. had made a foolish investment in a barren, frozen wasteland. The deal was derisively referred to as "Seward's Folly" or "Seward's Icebox."
However, as time passed, the true value of the Alaska Purchase began to emerge. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, gold and other valuable resources were discovered in Alaska, leading to a gold rush and increased economic activity in the region. In the 20th century, the discovery of oil in Alaska further solidified the territory's value.
Today, the state of Alaska is recognized as a significant contributor to the U.S. economy, with its vast natural resources playing a major role in its success. The oil industry in Alaska, centered around the Prudhoe Bay oil field and the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System, generates substantial revenue for the state and the country. In addition to oil, Alaska's abundant natural resources include gold, timber, and fish, which contribute to the state's economy and overall worth.
The Alaska Purchase of 1867, once considered a foolish and wasteful investment, has proven to be a valuable addition to the United States. Despite the initial skepticism and ridicule, the foresight of Secretary of State William Seward has led to the acquisition of a territory rich in natural resources, including oil, gold, and more. Today, Alaska's estimated worth of over $500 billion.

"❗️🇷🇺🇺🇦 Liberation of Maryinka
situation as of 19.00 December 25, 2023
🔻After more than nine years of fighting (seven of positional and almost two years of active clashes), Russian soldiers hoisted the Russian flag on the last house on the northern outskirts of Marinka, marking the liberation of the Donetsk suburb.
▪️At the cost of considerable effort and significant sacrifices, one of the largest strongholds of the Armed Forces of Ukraine fell under the onslaught of the Russian Army. Marinka was finally cleared of Ukrainian presence.
🔻After the liberation of Marinka, Ukrainian forces concentrated in the Georgievka area. There is no point in expecting attempts at counterattacks on the lost city, since the western outskirts lie in a lowland, and an offensive from these positions will cost the Ukrainian Armed Forces great casualties.
▪️More expected and logical on the part of the Ukrainian forces is the transfer of reinforcements to the south to the village of Pobeda and the heights in the landings southeast of the settlement.
▪️The main events will probably move to this site. The fortified area in this village still remains under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and does not allow success to be developed towards the Novomikhailovka-Konstantinovka line.
Russian fighters are already moving from the south, storming enemy strongholds from the southern outskirts of Novomikhailovka. The fighting, judging by the available videos, is taking place in an industrial zone near a populated area.

"Danish shipping giant Maersk said it intends to resume shipping through the Red Sea region after earlier canceling it due to security concerns related to Houthi attacks.
In mid-December, Maersk suspended shipments through the Red Sea following drone and missile attacks on ships in the region. On Sunday, the company announced it would be resuming operations through the route. “We have received confirmation that the previously announced multi-national security initiative Operation Prosperity Guardian (OPG) has now been set up and deployed to allow maritime commerce to pass through the Red Sea / Gulf of Aden and once again return to using the Suez Canal as a gateway between Asia and Europe,” the company said in a Dec. 24 update.
“With the OPG initiative in operation, we are preparing to allow for vessels to resume transit through the Red Sea both eastbound and westbound. We are currently working on plans for the first vessels to make the transit and for this to happen as soon as operationally possible.”
