"Calls are mounting for Norway to use its €1.8 trillion sovereign wealth fund to help move forward the EU’s stalled €140 billion loan for Ukraine, after a Danish newspaper revived a once far-fetched idea during last month’s EU leaders’ meeting.

Five Norwegian political parties, including three backing Labour Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre’s next government, have now urged Oslo to step in to overcome Belgium’s concerns about using immobilised Russian sovereign assets to fund a €140 billion reparation loan to Kyiv.

EU leaders discussed the issue on 23 October at a summit in Brussels, without reaching an agreement, as Belgium insists that other EU countries must share the legal and financial risks associated with the plan before it agrees to proceed. The assets are held by Euroclear, a Brussels-based clearing house.

Last week, Støre ordered a “full review” of Norway’s possible involvement.

Oil-rich Norway is sitting on the world’s largest sovereign wealth fund, worth €1.8 trillion, including an estimated €109 billion earned from soaring gas prices in 2022 and 2023 following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine."

❄️🇺🇸 Cold records dating back to the 1800s may be broken by a coming Arctic freeze

The season’s first outbreak of freezing, Arctic air is headed for the United States this weekend into next week. It will register as the most unusually cold blob of air on the planet for a time.

Chilly air will reach the Plains and the Midwest this weekend before spreading to the East Coast on Monday. In total, 155 million people across the contiguous states are expected to experience freezing conditions through Wednesday.

The most notable aspect of this early-season blast of cold air is how far south it will push, reaching the Deep South, the Gulf Coast and Florida, where temperatures will tumble 20 to 30 degrees below average for the time of year early next week. In the Sunshine State, the frigid air may break low-temperature records and cause iguanas to fall from trees. The air will also be remarkably dry, making it feel even colder when combined with gusty winds.

New temperature records — record cold days or nights — might be set across 13 states, from Pennsylvania to Florida, into next week.

🇺🇸🌎🇸🇻 The Trump Administration’s ongoing military buildup in Latin America, part of their current fight against drug trafficking cartels in the region, has now expanded to El Salvador, with recent satellite imagery obtained by the New York Times showing at least three military aircraft, including a specialized attack aircraft, on the ground at Cooperative Security Location Comalapa, located at El Salvador International Airport.

The three aircraft seen at the site in Comalapa — which is one of two such joint military sites operated by U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) to support counter-drug operations in Central America and the Caribbean — include a U.S. Navy P-8A “Poseidon” Maritime Patrol and Surveillance Aircraft, an C-40 “Clipper” Transport Aircraft, as well as a AC-130J “Ghostrider” Ground-Attack Gunship operated by U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM).

Trump, citing continuous violations and hostile action by Cambodia. “​The Royal Thai Air Force affirms that it will perform its duties with honour, dignity, and with the nation's best interests as the priority,” the Air Force said in a statement on Facebook.

🇨🇳 The PRC has already begun building its 4th aircraft carrier, designated currently as the Type 004.

From what is known currently, the Type 004 class carrier will be larger than the USS Gerald R. Ford. It will be powered by a nuclear reactor, it will have an electromagnetic catapult (EMALS) and will be able to house up to 100 aircraft. It has a displacement of between 110-120k tons

There are rumours that the PRC will build a 5th carrier simultaneously but those remain unconfirmed so far.

🇺🇦 The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) conducted searches at the home of businessman Timur Mindich, one of President Zelensky's closest associates.

Investigative actions began this morning in Kyiv, but Mindich allegedly fled Ukraine to Israel hours before cops kicked down his door.

Mindich embezzled European and American funds meant for the procurement of drones through his associated firm, FirePoint, is the biggest contractor of drones.

Mindich was also involved in energy market schemes. Investigators wiretapped his apartment and may have captured conversations with high-ranking officials, including the Ukrainian President, Vladimir Zelensky.

Simultaneously, searches are also underway at the home of Justice Minister and former Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko.

Furthermore, Mikhail and Alexander Tsukerman, described as Mindich’s “financial operators,” urgently left the country on the eve of the searches. They too fled to Israel.

They are also implicated in the FBI's money laundering investigation.

Thus, we are talking about a possible transnational scheme involving Ukrainian officials, businesses, defense contracts embezzling European, American, British, Canadian, Norwegian and Japanese funds meant for the Ukrainian army, same army which has a shortage of everything, from ammunition to vehicles, spare parts so on and so forth.

Investigators raided dozens of locations across Ukraine including the homes of Mindich, Galushchenko and the Tsukerman brothers and found dozens of duffel bags containing hundreds of cash stacks in dollars, euros and gryvnia.

🇪🇺 President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, is creating her personal intelligence agency

This EU intel agency will be collecting information provided by every intel agency of every member state and centralize this information to improve the union's security.

The subject is controversial as, despite claiming unity in public, many of the EU's members are reluctant to share information with one another. The newspaper FT writes that France and most EU countries would be reluctant to share information with Hungary.

Austria has long been criticised of being the EU's most vulnerable area, highly exposed to Russian intelligence and spying.

So far, only France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the UK share intelligence with one another but that began in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks and in 2011 this exchange had been institutionalized in the form of the European External Action Service (EEAS).

This initiative started by von der Leyen is yet another power grab from member states to the central government in Brussels, with Trump's disinterest in defending Europe and Russia's hybrid war being given as reasons to centralize power even further.

As this new intel agency will be created by the Commission, other institutions like the European Parliament and the European Council won't have any overseeing powers with its activities and monitoring being known only by Ursula and her trusted confidants.

SoftBank Chief Financial Officer Yoshimitsu Goto characterized the Nvidia sale as part of the company’s broader asset monetization strategy rather than a negative view of the chipmaker’s prospects. The firm requires approximately $30.5 billion in capital for fourth-quarter investments, representing more funding activity than the previous two years combined.

The massive capital requirement reflects SoftBank’s determination to establish dominant positions across the artificial intelligence value chain. Beyond the OpenAI commitment, the company plans $6.5 billion for semiconductor firm Ampere and other strategic AI investments through its Vision Fund platform.

This asset rotation strategy allows SoftBank to maintain financial strength while pursuing aggressive investment opportunities in rapidly evolving AI markets.
