The National Electoral Council of Colombia has decided to SANCTION the 2022 presidential candidacy of the communist Petro, both in the first and second round.

📝 The plenary session of the National Electoral Council (CNE) determined, with six votes in favor and three against, that the campaign exceeded the financing limits in the first and second rounds by more than 3.5 billion pesos (approximately US$940,000) and received prohibited contributions.

🕵️‍♂️ In this case, the CNE (National Electoral Council) imposed fines on Petro's campaign manager and current president of the state-owned oil company Ecopetrol, Ricardo Roa, as well as on the political parties Colombia Humana and Unión Patriótica (UP).

❗️ According to Art. 109 of the Colombian Constitution, Petro could end losing the Presidency of the Republic.
