Chinese-language money laundering networks (CMLNs) have increased their share of known illicit laundering activity to approximately 20% in 2025. This regional connection is further evidenced by the off-ramping patterns we observe. To take one example, as we highlighted in the scams chapter of this report, CLMNs have grown to now consistently launder over 10% of funds stolen in pig butchering scams, coinciding with a steady decline in the use of centralized exchanges, potentially because exchanges can freeze funds.
Compared to other laundering endpoints, since 2020, inflows to identified CMLNs grew 7,325 times faster than those to centralized exchanges, 1,810 times faster than those to decentralized finance (DeFi), and 2,190 times faster than intra-illicit on-chain flows. While CMLNs are by no means the only facilitator of on-chain laundering, Chinese-language Telegram-based services now account for a disproportionate share of the attributed global on-chain money laundering landscape. In doing so, they process funds from a wide range of on- and off-chain criminal activity.

Since early last year, the facility has added bunkers, ammo storage, new logistics and support infrastructure, and expanded living quarters for troops.
L.S.A Jenkins is far away from the Persian Gulf and by extension, Iran's large stocks of short range missiles.
L.S.A. Jenkins began being expanded before the outbreak of the 12 Day War in June 2025 and is meant to replace the Al Udeid airbase in Qatar which is far too vulnerable to Iranian attacks.

“A bigger question is why China wants so many carriers. In debates about the future of America’s carrier fleet, some Western analysts say…anti-ship missiles and drone warfare…have made them obsolete. But China appears to be ignoring such talk.”
“In a fight with America over Taiwan, carriers might be less useful. After all, Taiwan is well within range of airbases on the Chinese mainland. China’s carrier plans, then, point to much broader ambitions.”
“Aircraft-carriers would be particularly valuable in protecting shipping bound for China, and stanching the maritime trade of adversaries in the event of war. ‘These are power-projection platforms for achieving sea control,’

The Economist: “China plans…six new aircraft-carriers before 2035. That…would see China building aircraft-carriers at more than twice the clip of America…America also plans to retire three…By 2035 America will have 11 such vessels to China’s nine.”

—❗️🇺🇸/🇮🇷/🇹🇷 NEW: After mediation from Turkey, Axios reports that Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi will meet U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff in Istanbul this Friday
Sources tell MES that a final decision to attend has not been made, as the Foreign Ministry has not yet gotten approval from the SNSC (which decides such matters).
The same sources also stated that any negotiations would be purely about Iran's nuclear program; discussing ballistic missiles or support for Hezbollah and other regional groups is out of the question for the Iranians.

🇩🇰 🇵🇦 🇨🇳 Shipping giant Maersk to take over Panama Canal ports after court ruling
Danish shipping firm Maersk will temporarily take over two Panama Canal ports after a court ruled the current contract held by Hong Kong-based CK Hutchison was unconstitutional. The decision followed pressure from US President Donald Trump, who claimed the canal was being controlled by China. Maersk replaces CK Hutchison, which had operated the ports since 1997. Panama maintains control of the canal, which handles significant global trade traffic.

🇺🇸 🌍 🇷🇺 Three West African juntas have turned to Russia. Now the US wants to engage them
The state department announced that Nick Checker, head of its Bureau of African Affairs, would visit Mali's capital Bamako to convey the United States' "respect for Mali's sovereignty" and chart a "new course" in relations, moving "past policy missteps".
The US, like Europe, remains seriously concerned about the long-term security threat posed by the jihadist groups now operating across the Sahel - the semi-arid stretch of land south of the Sahara Desert. According to some definitions, the region now accounts for half of all the world's terrorism deaths.
Although almost all the casualties are local, there is concern in the US that the governments' loss of control of much of their territory could allow the emergence of safe havens for jihadist groups to develop further and expand.
Diplomats and analysts routinely now describe the region as the "epicentre of global terrorism", which could present a long-term international threat.
A fresh reminder of the scale of threat that it poses came only last week with an attack on the airport in Niamey, Niger's capital.
The jihadist activity is also a threat to the Sahel's export of valuable or strategically important minerals: the region is a major producer of gold and Mali also produces lithium – a key ingredient in rechargeable batteries and also used in some medication – while Niger has significant uranium reserves.
The Trump administration also appears concerned not to leave Russia to play the role of sole external defence partner of the three countries.
It seems that Washington does not want to leave the field open for exclusively Russian influence and does now want to balance that with its own security partnership.
