France increased its purchase of Russian gas more than any other European country in the first quarter of 2024. More than 600 million euros worth of gas was imported during this period

The country's authorities say that the national energy company TotalEnergies' agreements with Moscow to buy gas were made long ago and are difficult to get out of.

"France is quietly stepping up payments for gas from Russia, while President Emmanuel Macron is loudly promoting himself as one of Ukraine's most ardent defenders," the article said.

According to Deutsche Welle reporting, the 5,000-strong strikeforce called Panzerbrigade 45 is said to become fully operational by 2027. The brigade will support the already existing so-called NATO Enhanced Forward Presence in the Baltic country, which, in contrast to Panzerbrigade 45, rotates its personnel regularly and was made up of soldiers from Germany, Belgium, Czechia, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway and the United States as of December 2023.

🇺🇸🇨🇺⚠️ — ⛓ Victor Manuel Rocha, former US ambassador to Argentina and Bolivia, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison in Miami for working as a spy for Cuban intelligence for four decades.

🔨 Rocha, 73, who lived in the city of Florida, was arrested in December. According to the Miami Herald, Judge Beth Bloom of the Miami District Court called the former ambassador "an enemy of the United States government."

"Your actions were a direct attack on our democracy and the security of our citizens. You turned your back on this country, a country that gave you everything."

😪 According to the Miami newspaper, Rocha, born in Colombia and naturalized as an American in 1978, apologized to the judge, the United States, and his family before the sentence was announced.

❌ "As a student, I was strongly influenced by the radical politics of the time," he said. "Today, I no longer see the world through the radical eyes of my youth."

‼️ Among the murky stories involving Rocha, one that stood out was a statement he made in June 2002, four days before the presidential election in Bolivia, in which he referred to then-candidate Evo Morales without mentioning his name.

💬 "The Bolivian electorate should consider the consequences of electing leaders somehow linked to drug trafficking and terrorism," Rocha said, suggesting that Morales' election could lead to a cut in US aid to Bolivia.

⁉️ The statement sparked outrage among the Bolivian population and, according to analysts, was decisive in Morales gaining last-minute votes and almost winning that year's election.

❗️ The Bolivian leader coined an immortal phrase: "My best campaign manager is named Manuel Rocha." After the former ambassador's arrest, suspicions grew that the 2002 statement was deliberate self-sabotage, considering Morales' strong ties to the Havana dictatorship.

US Ambassador to Argentina Marc Stanley told the Argentine newspaper La Nación that he was surprised Argentina allowed Chinese armed forces to operate a base on its territory."
