"KIEV — "The next few months will be very difficult for Volodymyr Zelensky. Should he continue the war with new deaths and destruction, or consider a territorial compromise with Putin? And, in this case, what pressure will come from America if Trump wins? And how can we explain to the country that we need to give up pieces of our territory that cost the lives of thousands of our fighting heroes? Whatever move he makes, our President risks political suicide. Let's be clear, we have to win the war, but the situation is becoming more and more complicated, it depends on the aid arriving from the allies, it would be a nightmare if we had to fight for another two years."
(...)
How do you see Zelensky's proposal to organize a second international peace conference by November, after the one in Switzerland in mid-June, but this time with the presence of a Russian delegation?
"Let's see, I don't know. Russians are ambiguous, impossible to trust them. Putin talks about opening up to peace, but in reality he takes his time to occupy the whole of Ukraine, he always betrays his promises. Putin still hopes he can take Kiev. However, nothing concrete can happen before the American elections. The United States is a fundamental partner, which should guarantee agreements with Moscow and everyone wants to know who the next president in Washington will be before making any choice."

"Former President Trump has again declared he will "bring peace" following a rare phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday, which comes as world leaders prepare for a likely second Trump administration.
Trump in a readout hailed it as a "very good phone call" wherein Zelensky congratulated him on a "very successful" Republican National Convention and becoming the Republican nominee for US President.
Zelensky during the call condemned the "heinous" assassination attempt which targeted Trump, slightly wounding his ear, and praised American unity in the aftermath."

"We reported earlier that the Ukrainian side seemed to react positively to former President Donald Trump's phone call with President Zelensky on Friday, as the Republican nominee for president conveyed that upon taking the White House his priority will be to explore achieving peace with Russia.
Trump wrote in the call aftermath that "I, as your next President of the United States, will bring peace to the world and end the war that has cost so many lives and devastated countless innocent families." He added that "Both sides will be able to come together and negotiate a deal that ends the violence and paves a path forward to prosperity."
But some influential Ukrainian officials are already warning Zelensky against too hastily taking to the negotiating table. Zelensky has in the past consistently rejected the idea of sitting down with Moscow, and has openly stated he intends to refuse so long as Putin is leader of Russia.
(...) Zelensky could eventually welcome the kind of opening toward peace that a potential Trump presidency provides.
Kyiv’s mayor said on Sunday that Zelensky risks "political suicide" should he pursue a peace deal which ends in Ukraine ceding territory to Russia."

Russian parliament passed a bill allowing the use of crypto for international trade and also legalized crypto mining.
The legislation aims to facilitate international transactions that Western sanctions and regulatory pressures on local banks have hampered. The use of crypto will allow certain industries to bypass specific trade regulations.
According to Reuters, Russia has experienced notable interruptions in global transactions with key trading partners like China, India, the United Arab Emirates, and Turkey. This is due to local banks exercising increased caution under pressure from Western regulators.

🇺🇸 Swarm Wars: Pentagon holds toughest drone-defense demo to date
🔶️ Eight counter-UAS systems — wielding a mix of radars, machineguns, missiles, jammers, and more — were tested against swarms of up to 50 drones of different types attacking simultaneously from different directions and speeds.
🔶️ With drone strikes in the news from Kyiv to Tel Aviv, the Pentagon’s all-service drone defense program just held its most ambitious field demonstration yet, with up to 50 unmanned aircraft of different types converging on a single target at a time.
🔶️ “Demo Five really was our most challenging JCO demonstration to date,” said Col. Michael Parent, chief of acquisitions & resources at the Army-led JCO, the mercifully short acronym for Joint Counter-small Unmanned Aircraft System Office.
🔶️ The JCO demonstrations at Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona, first held in April 2021, take prototype systems developed by private firms and test their ability to defend against drones. This year’s especially ambitious event focused on repeated swarm attacks, although the details of the scenario were not shared with vendors beforehand. Attacking waves, coming from different altitudes and angles, also included multiple types of drones — fast jets, slower prop-driven drones, and mini-helicopters — ranging in size from under 20 pounds (Group 1 UAS) to over 1,000 (Group 3).
🔶️ Instead of being built around a single weapon, most of these offerings were “layered” defenses that combined multiple sensors to detect the drones, which often are too low, slow, and small for radar, and “effectors” to take them down.
🔶️ “No one capability, whether kinetic or non-kinetic, in itself could really just beat this kind of [attack] profile,” Parent said. “What we saw was they really do need a full system of systems approach, a layered approach.”
🔶️ Interestingly, however, none of the vendors in this demo used “directed energy” weapons, such as lasers or high-powered microwaves. (That said, an HPM weapon was tested in a spinoff event at the same time.)
