☢️ 🇺🇸 🇰🇿 U.S. suspends uranium imports from Kazakhstan
🔶️ The United States reduced its uranium imports in the first month of summer 2024, suspending purchases from Russia, China, and Kazakhstan.
🔶️ In June 2024, the United States imported $367.1mn worth of enriched uranium, a 2.7-fold decrease from May's figures. The most substantial portion of uranium imports came from France, which accounted for two-thirds of the total, amounting to $243.3mn. This figure is only slightly lower than the $245.4mn recorded in May.
🔶️ The U.S. also sourced uranium from the Netherlands, with imports rising to $78.9mn from $63.3mn in May. However, imports from Germany dropped sharply by 2.3 times to $42.1mn. Belgium's contributions increased slightly, reaching $2.8mn.
🔶️ In May, President Joe Biden signed a law banning uranium imports from Russia, effective until 2040. However, exceptions are permitted until 2028 with approval from the U.S. Department of Energy. Russian state atomic energy corporation Rosatom criticized the law, labeling it discriminatory and non-market. Rosatom reaffirmed its leading position in global nuclear technology and its commitment to developing long-term partnerships with interested foreign partners.
🔶️ According to the World Nuclear Association, Kazakhstan accounts for 12% of global uranium resources and produced approximately 21,200 tonnes of uranium (tU) in 2022, which represented 43% of the world's total production for that year. Since 2001, the country’s uranium output has generally risen, peaking at 24,689 tU in 2016.

The foreign ministers of Brazil, Colombia and Mexico, by order of their respective presidents, met virtually yesterday, August 7, 2024, to continue discussing the current situation in Venezuela.
They consider essential the presentation by the National Electoral Council of Venezuela (CNE) of the results of the presidential elections of July 28, 2024, broken down by voting station. When taking note of the process initiated before the Supreme Court of Justice of Venezuela (TSJ) regarding the electoral process, they start from the premise that the CNE is the body that is responsible, by legal mandate, for the transparent disclosure of the electoral results.
They reaffirm the convenience of allowing impartial verification of the results, respecting the fundamental principle of popular sovereignty. Furthermore, they reiterate the call to the country's political and social actors to exercise maximum caution and moderation in public demonstrations and events and to the country's security forces to guarantee the full exercise of this democratic right within the limits of the law. . Respect for Human Rights must prevail in any circumstance.
Expressing, once again, their respect for the sovereignty and will of the Venezuelan people, they announce that they will continue with high-level conversations, and emphasize their conviction and confidence that the solutions to the current situation must emerge from Venezuela. In this sense, they reiterate their willingness to support efforts at dialogue and the search for understandings that contribute to political stability and democracy in the country.

🇷🇺🇺🇦 Ukrainian formations have started using the uniforms of Russian military personnel and civilian medical transport to capture Russian Armed Forces positions and checkpoints.
There are at least two confirmed cases where a "military police" vehicle, which turned out to be a Ukrainian recon group, arrived at one of the Russian positions on a Ural truck. In the second case, a medical Gazelle van with alleged "medical personnel" was used.
The fate of the outposts in both cases was unfortunate.
Where they fail to take the outposts by storm, the enemy takes advantage of panic, disrupted communications due to electronic warfare, and the inexperience of fighters who succumb to the all-powerful military police and medics rushing to help.

Walz: "I've lived in China and as I've said I've been there about 30 times...I don't fall into the category that China necessarily needs to be an adversarial relationship
"NEW YORK -- Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, selected to be the running mate for Vice President Kamala Harris against former President Donald Trump in the U.S. election in November, has visited China numerous times and has emerged as a sharp critic of Beijing on human rights and other issues.
(...)
Walz was critical of Trump's confrontational trade policy and later led a delegation on a six-day trip to Asia, visiting South Korea and Japan to strengthen commercial ties. He has underscored the need to maintain dialogue with China, too. But at the same time, he had tough words for Beijing in an interview with Nikkei in Tokyo last year.
"We need to cooperate with China on issues such as climate change and agricultural production, but I'm disappointed with China's recent performance -- on the Ukraine issue, they are on Russia's side," he said."

🇵🇸 🇮🇱 🇮🇱 This Israeli soldier, who, alongside his unit, raped a Palestinian prisoner, was invited on Israeli Channel 14 to defend the assault live on TV.
⬛️ "Our army in the healthiest army, I'm here to protect our good name"
🔶️ The heinous assault was captured on CCTV at the Sde Teiman detention center and leaked, revealing the brutal conditions and systematic torture inflicted on Palestinian prisoners. Reports from the center have documented severe abuse, including rape, electric shocks, and starvation.
🔶️ The case has caused controversy in Israel, primarily because the focus has been on initiating an investigation and questioning the soldiers rather than addressing the rape itself.
🔶️ Hundreds of Israelis, including politicians and reserve soldiers, have even stormed a military base to protest the investigation and demand the release of the soldiers, effectively defending their actions. According to an Israeli TV poll, 47% of Israelis supported the rape of Palestinian detainees by Israeli soldiers.

🔶️ A mishap from the Chinese rocket creates over 300 pieces of trackable debris, according to US Space Command. And the fragments might one day pose a danger to Starlink.
🔶️ A rocket carrying satellites for China’s version of Starlink accidentally broke apart in space, creating a debris field in Earth’s orbit.
🔶️ The rocket, Long March 6A, took off on Tuesday, carrying the first 18 satellites for China’s Qianfan “Thousand Sails” satellite constellation, which was previously known as G60. Although the satellites were successfully deployed, the rocket's upper stage appears to have split into numerous fragments, according to satellite tracking firms.
🔶️ On Thursday, US Space Command confirmed the “break-up” of the rocket, saying the incident has resulted in over “300 pieces of trackable debris in low-Earth orbit.”
