🔶️ A Chinese rocket stage that broke apart in space this week created more than 700 pieces of debris, putting over 1,000 satellites and other objects in a high-traffic region of Earth's orbit at risk of hazardous collisions, analysts said on Friday.
🔶️ China's state-owned Shanghai Spacecom Satellite Technology (SSST) launched 18 internet satellites into orbit on Tuesday as the inaugural batch of a communications network that will challenge SpaceX's vast Starlink constellation.
🔶️ The upper rocket stage that carried those satellites into orbit appeared to explode soon after deploying its payloads, creating a growing field of debris that U.S. space-tracking firms estimate to be at least 700 pieces so far.
SSST did not respond to a request for comment.
🔶️ U.S. space-tracking firm LeoLabs said it was likely the number of debris pieces exceeds 900, making the event one of the largest ever. The debris cloud, created at roughly 800 kilometres (497 miles) in altitude, will last several years, several analysts said.
🔶️ Over 1,100 satellites and other objects in space are at risk of colliding with the Chinese debris, Audrey Schaffer, vice president of strategy at space-tracking firm Slingshot Aerospace, told Reuters.

📝 Object Zero: This engine is the greatest rocket engine ever built, BECAUSE they got rid of all the electronics and software. Fluid management system. Nope. The shape of the pipes is the fluid management. All of Mech Eng is full of similar opportunities. To my eye, I still see the unfinished business on Raptor 3, for example I expect Raptor 4 will not have any bolted flanges and I expect the entire upper assembly will already be undergoing another major version iteration. The lower assembly illustrates a tremendous grip of the requirements.
📝 SpaceX Anon: It really is something, benefits of vertical integration. Generally engineers find themselves in the position of having to juggle the costs of having a bespoke part made by a subcontractor vs off the shelf solutions. SpaceX makes just about everything so they have more options. So now thay they know exactly what Raptor needs to do, they can min max a totally purpose built assembly. Also this is only possible because it is a private company. A board of shareholders would shit a brick at all the losses SpaceX has had to absorb over the years due to the high risk of actually owning the entire process start to finish. I'm lucky that my statement of work is only to design, if its something that can just be bought they dont waste a design engineers salary on it. But by contrast my friend who is a test engineer at [redacted] gets blocked anytime he tries to design something for a tester, they just force him to cludge together off the shelf parts.

Trump campaign says its internal messages hacked by Iran
"Former President Trump's campaign confirmed to Fox News on Saturday that some of its internal communications were hacked.
Liberal media outlet Politico had reached out to the campaign after the news outlet started receiving internal Trump documents.
"These documents were obtained illegally from foreign sources hostile to the United States, intended to interfere with the 2024 election and sow chaos throughout our Democratic process," said Steven Cheung, communications director for the Trump campaign.
"On Friday, a new report from Microsoft found that Iranian hackers broke into the account of a ‘high ranking official’ on the U.S. presidential campaign in June 2024, which coincides with the close timing of President Trump’s selection of a Vice Presidential nominee," he added.
Cheung noted that the hack allegedly by Iran came, "after recent reports of an Iranian plot to assassinate President Trump around the same time as the Butler, PA tragedy."

“We continue to demand that the electoral records be presented, table by table and ballot box by ballot box, and that the definitive word comes from the CNE, not the TSJ. They said that Elvis Amoroso (the head of the CNE) brought the records, but it clearly seems that didn't happen. He arrived with a small folder with three papers, nothing more!"

In their campaign of censorship, CANTV blocks the access of HBO MAX and Disney +
Country’s digital wallet programme will distribute $12.5bn to households, providing valuable lessons on the risks and rewards
An intriguing window into the future of money and how central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) might be used has opened up in Thailand. This future holds promise but has many hazards as well. Countries barrelling towards it, and especially their citizens, should give it careful thought.
Fulfilling an election promise, the Thai government has initiated a programme to distribute money to low-income households through digital wallets. About 50mn Thais who fall below certain income and savings thresholds will get about $280 each, roughly half of monthly per capita income. This will temporarily boost household consumption and GDP but at a significant fiscal cost and without doing much to tackle deep-rooted problems, including low investment which is holding back growth.

A staff report published by several New York Federal Reserve employees found that Ethereum “is not immune to censorship and cooperation,” which depends on the roles of several actors across the network. The paper examined how the network performed after Tornado Cash, one of the main mixers in the blockchain, was sanctioned by the OFAC.
While network proponents have highlighted the censorship resistance of Ethereum as a key element for its adoption, this is being contested. A New York Federal Reserve staff report noscriptd “Regulating Decentralized Systems: Evidence from Sanctions on Tornado Cash” indicates this depends on many factors and network actors.
