China's large military industrial capacity is likely to sustain a war effort for much longer than its adversaries.
My personal assessment is it's more credible than not, because this is close to the smash to win button for 1st island chain, i.e. anything within 1500km. PRC is good at value engineering, these missiles don't have to be high reliability ordnances. This isn't US who has to spend billions in logistics just to hoof weapons into theatre, so need to engineer for low dud rates. I wouldn't be surprised if these are like low 6 digit cheap or less when produced at scale involved, maybe even 5 digit vs inputs/components compared to EVs, and there's no reason not to start hammering them out instead of letting machines sit idle and depreciate unproductively.
If a few weeks days of production basically trivially saturates any missile defense in 1st island chain, another week can lock down airfields, ports, continuously degrade infra, then why would PRC not? It makes so much sense. Unlike planes and ships, intelligence/OSINT can't count from satellite, 100,000s missiles can go straight from assembling plant to storage to obfuscate build up. Load it into a cheap launcher system that can be slapped onto any light/medium vehicle for dispersal.

Javier Milei's government is once again using the chainsaw, in this case announcing that they will dissolve the AFIP (Federal Tax Collection Agency) and that instead they will create a smaller agency, reducing directors' salaries by 90% and firing a third of the staff.
OFFICIAL STATEMENT
City of Buenos Aires, October 21, 2024.- The Office of the President informs that, within the framework of the reduction of the State and the elimination of inefficient structures, it will proceed to dissolve the Federal Administration of Public Revenues (AFIP).
The Agency for Collection and Customs Control (ARCA) will be created, an organization with a simpler, more efficient, less costly and less bureaucratic structure. This measure will reduce the number of senior authorities by 45% and the lower levels by 31%, which represents an elimination of 34% of the current structure, generating an annual saving of 6.4 billion pesos.
Likewise, 3,155 agents who entered the AFIP irregularly during the last Kirchner government will be dismissed, which is equivalent to 15% of the current staff. This step is essential to dismantle the unnecessary bureaucracy that has hindered the economic and commercial freedom of Argentines.
On the other hand, as the start of the management of the new ARCA, the Hierarchy Account for senior officials will be eliminated, reducing the salary of the head of the entity, from approximately 32 million to the amount currently received by a Minister of the Nation, around 4 million. The same will occur with the salaries of the Directors of the General Tax Directorate (DGI) and the General Customs Directorate (DGA), who currently receive 17 million and will receive a salary comparable to that of a Secretary of the Nation.
The creation of ARCA has as its objective the reduction of the State, the elimination of unnecessary positions, the professionalization of the entity, the destruction of corrupt circuits, and the improvement in the efficiency of collection and customs control, eliminating the privileges of the past and optimizing public management.
The ARCA management will be in charge of Florencia Misrahi, who will lead this process together with Andrés Gerardo Vázquez, who will assume the position of head of the DGI, and José Andrés Velis, the new head of the DGA. Vázquez, a graduate in Business Administration and a Public Accountant, has more than 30 years of experience in the General Tax Directorate. For his part, Velis has extensive experience in the General Customs Directorate and has been responsible for the development of key computer systems such as the Malvina system.

Nasrallah's bunkers, which serves as a central financial facility for the Hezbollah terrorist organization and was built beneath the Al-Sahel Hospita
"“Tonight, I am going to declassify intelligence on a site that we did not strike—where Hezbollah has millions of dollars in gold and cash—in Hassan Nasrallah’s bunker. Where is the bunker located? Directly under Al-Sahel Hospital in the heart of Beirut.”

"Having presented his so-called "victory plan" to his European and US allies, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky continues his Dickensian demands for "moar" (but this time with a threat of nukes).
Data from the Ukraine Support Tracker at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy shows that while the governments of the United Kingdom and Germany are certainly pulling their weight in their support of the Ukrainian war effort, France and Italy have fallen somewhat behind as Ukraine's tenth and 14th biggest donors (including pledges) as of August 31.
The countries have so far committed less than 0.2 percent of their 2021 GDPs each to Ukraine wartime aid, compared to around 0.4 percent in the case of the Germany and the United States and even 0.47 percent in the case of the United Kingdom."

"KYIV—Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin arrived in Kyiv on Monday bearing a message of strong U.S. commitment to Ukraine’s war effort but with no new military assistance or permission for its forces to use long-range missiles inside Russia.
Austin, a former four-star Army general, has led the Western response to the conflict since the early days of the war, coordinating more than $64 billion in U.S. military aid for Kyiv and tens of billions more from Europe.
But his visit to Kyiv, an unannounced stop that will likely be his last to the Ukrainian capital as Pentagon chief, underscored the continuing debate over whether the Biden administration—and Austin himself—has hobbled Ukraine’s war effort with a cautious approach to providing American-made weapons and restrictions on their use."

"Russia GDP is now estimated at +3.8 percent, topping the US, despite sanctions. What’s going on?
(...)
It is worth looking at the autumn forecast for Russia by the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies, one of the best sources of economic information for central and eastern Europe. They upgraded their growth forecast for this year by 0.6pp to 3.8%. Russia is outgrowing all western economies, including the US. Growth is forecast to slow down to 2.5% next year because of the impact of a 19% interest rate. It is clear that Russia’s economic expansion is a classic case of a wartime Keynesian effect.
It is also interesting to contrast Russia’s economic development with that of Ukraine’s main supporters in Europe, which have entered into synchronised austerity, first in Germany, and now in France and the UK.
Russia’s fiscal stability is perhaps the biggest surprise. Defence spending is on trajectory towards 6% of GDP. And yet, the 2024 budget deficit is projected at 1.5%, falling to 1% in 2025.
Vasily Astrov, the Russia expert at WIIW, concludes that Putin will have money for the foreseeable future to continue financing the war against Ukraine. A rise in income and corporate tax has meant that Russia’s state finance will become less dependent on energy.
Financial sanctions are ultimately not as successful as their advocates once believed because money is not a natural global monopoly. International banks are certainly susceptible to US dollar sanctions. But not all banks in the world operate in dollar markets. The use of secondary sanctions has become a first-order instrument in the US’s diplomatic toolkit in this century. But it falls into the category of instruments which lose their value the more you use them. Even amongst US economists, we see a lot of complacency about this. It was friction combined with network effects that favoured the emergency of a single dominating currency – the pound sterling, the dollar later. The danger to the dollar is not the euro, or renminbi. It is that micro-channels are becoming viable as technology reduces the frictions.
Lessons of the Day
The more you depend on sanctions, the less they work.
That’s the real risk to the dollar."

Session is now more resilient to hostility towards encrypted messaging, and better positioned to protect your privacy.
Session is different from other tech platforms—it doesn’t answer to any single person. Instead, it operates on a decentralised protocol designed with a clear purpose: preserving and protecting privacy. Session’s code is completely open source, and its servers are operated by a diverse community of operators from around the world. It is a truly decentralised communication protocol.
However, a steward is still required to handle duties like publishing to app stores, maintaining repositories, and writing documentation. The steward’s role is not to own or control Session, but to guide and support it. However, given the current regulatory environment in Australia around privacy technology and encrypted messaging, Session’s original steward, the OPTF, has chosen to pass on its responsibilities as steward of the project.
From now on, Session will be stewarded by a new Swiss foundation, the Session Technology Foundation.

Plan to 'kill Musk's Twitter' exposed in leaked CCDH files
Monthly agenda templates from the Center for Countering Digital Hate list “Kill Musk’s Twitter” as their primary objective, according to internal documents reviewed by The DisInformation Chronicle.
The documents show CCDH, a British nonprofit, included plans to “trigger regulatory action” against X, formerly Twitter. The organization’s focus on X comes as questions emerge about its activities under its 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.
Records indicate CCDH held meetings with several groups, including representatives from the Biden White House, Congressman Adam Schiff’s office, the State Department, and Media Matters for America.
