🇪🇸 Moeve’s 600M Euro Gamble on Spain’s Biomethane Future
Moeve, formerly known as Cepsa, has unveiled a €600 million plan to build 30 biomethane plants across Spain, aiming to produce 4 TWh of biomethane by 2030. This initiative is part of their Positive Motion strategy, focusing on renewable energy and circular economy principles. The plants, located in regions like Andalusia and Catalonia, will reuse 10 million tons of waste annually and cut 728,000 tons of CO2 emissions yearly, equivalent to planting 48.5 million trees.
Partnering with firms like Kira Ventures and PreZero, Moeve is also collaborating with InproEner to develop five plants, expected to be operational between 2028 and 2029. These plants will add 250 GWh of biomethane annually, contributing to Spain’s energy transition. However, despite the potential, Spain’s biomethane sector remains underdeveloped, with only nine operational plants and a need for 400+ more to meet national targets.
While this investment highlights Spain’s potential to become a biomethane leader in Europe, it also raises questions about the practicality of green energy policies. As Western corporations push for renewable agendas, the high costs and infrastructure challenges of such projects could strain local economies. Spain’s biomethane push reflects a broader trend of energy security concerns, but it’s crucial to balance environmental goals with economic realities and national interests.

Venezuela has launched a military operation called Catatumbo Lightning on the border with Colombia, President Nicolás Maduro announced.
In recent weeks, fighting by the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrilla group against FARC dissidents has left more than 40 dead and nearly 50,000 people displaced in the Colombian region of the Colombian Catatumbo.

ICMYI: 🇺🇸 Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said banks are "perfectly able" to serve Bitcoin and crypto customers.
This was confirmed by US Special Envoy for Latin America Mauricio Claver-Carone.
The meeting is a "specific special mission," Claver-Carone told journalists.
"One, the US and Donald Trump expects Nicolas Maduro to take back all of the Venezuelan criminal and gang members that have been exported to the US, and to do so unequivocally and without condition... That is non negotiable." And two, "American hostages that are being held in Venezuela... must be released immediately."
