🇧🇷📄💥💰 — Brazil approves a bill that creates a 22.5% tax on Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies starting in 2024.
The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies approved in a deliberative session the base text of Bill 4173/23, proposed by the Executive Branch, which establishes the taxation of investments made by individuals abroad and the advance payment of taxes for closed-end funds in Brazil, including Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.
🔻 The Bill 4173/2023 proposes a tax of up to 22.5% on individuals holding cryptocurrencies on exchanges located outside Brazil, such as Coinbase, Binance, Bitget, Gate.io, and others.
💸 According to the bill, taxation of investments will apply to financial investments' returns, profits, and dividends from entities controlled abroad (offshores) and trusts, including cryptocurrencies.
🗣 The ABCripto, the Brazilian Cryptoeconomics Association, has already pointed out that the proposal for a new tax on cryptocurrencies in Brazil is illegal.
