"A ransomware group called “Ghost” is exploiting the network vulnerabilities of various organizations to gain access to their systems, according to a joint advisory issued by multiple U.S. federal agencies.
“Beginning early 2021, Ghost actors began attacking victims whose internet-facing services ran outdated versions of software and firmware,” the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) said in the Feb. 19 joint advisory. “Ghost actors, located in China, conduct these widespread attacks for financial gain.”
The attacks have targeted schools and universities, government networks, critical infrastructure, technology and manufacturing companies, health care, and several small and mid-sized businesses."

"Donald Trump’s administration is sketching out tougher versions of US semiconductor curbs and pressuring key allies to escalate their restrictions on China’s chip industry, an early indication the new US president plans to expand efforts that began under Joe Biden to limit Beijing’s technological prowess.
Trump officials recently met with their Japanese and Dutch counterparts about restricting Tokyo Electron Ltd. and ASML Holding NV engineers from maintaining semiconductor gear in China, according to people familiar with the matter. The aim, which was also a priority for Biden, is to see key allies match China curbs the US has placed on American chip-gear companies, including Lam Research Corp., KLA Corp. and Applied Materials Inc.
The working group-level meeting between US, Japanese and Dutch officials took place last week on the sidelines of a summit in Japan, people familiar with the matter said."

"Bloomberg reported that Elon Musk's SpaceX subsidiary, Starlink, is preparing to deploy terminals nationwide to upgrade the Federal Aviation Administration's national airspace system. The effort raises questions about conflicts of interest for Musk’s business empire and the future of a $2 billion contract awarded in 2023 to Verizon Communications Inc. to upgrade the critical infrastructure, according to the people, who weren’t authorized to speak publicly.
Musk approved a shipment of 4,000 Starlink terminals to the FAA last week for the initiative, said one of the people. One terminal has already been installed at the FAA’s air-traffic control technology lab in Atlantic City, New Jersey, for testing, the person said."

These will inform the development of educational resources, museum exhibits, and digital archives, enhancing cultural preservation and public engagement with El Salvador’s history.
🔶️ Our approach builds on proven methodologies previously applied in the El Mirador basin, Guatemala, where LiDAR revealed extensive urban networks and monumental architecture, and at Copán, Honduras, where it refined mappings of ceremonial complexes. We anticipate similar insights in El Salvador.

Officials tasked with monitoring London’s bullion market have fielded anxious calls from bankers asking to short-circuit the system, said people familiar with the matter. The Bank of England responded that they have to wait for their turns.
🔶️ The gold rush shows how Trump’s steps to reshape world trade are rippling through international markets. He recently said Europe’s trade stance versus the U.S. was an atrocity, and promised punishing levies on the region. While it isn’t clear whether any tariffs would affect gold directly, the price spread widened after Trump unveiled broad-based aluminum and steel tariffs this week.
🔶️ Security firms shuttle bullion to the airport in London in high-strength vans. Comex contracts require a different size of bar, so traders need to send gold to Swiss refiners to recast it before flying on to the U.S. Sometimes, they cut out the first European leg by handing the refiner gold in London in exchange for the right size of bar, or flying bullion in from Australia instead.
