👨‍💻 🇸🇻 🗺 Palestra has entered into an agreement with the Ministry of Culture of El Salvador to deploy advanced LiDAR-equipped unmanned aerial systems for the mapping and surveying of archaeological sites across the country.

🔶️ Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technology leverages high-frequency laser pulses to generate precise, high-resolution 3D models of terrain and subsurface features. Its capability to penetrate dense canopy layers enables the detection of archaeological structures obscured by vegetation.

🔶️ Commencing later this year, our operations will focus on both documented sites and regions with high archaeological potential. This initiative aims to expand the understanding of El Salvador’s pre-Columbian heritage.

🔶️ Data acquired through this project will be processed and analyzed to produce detailed topographical and structural datasets. These will inform the development of educational resources, museum exhibits, and digital archives, enhancing cultural preservation and public engagement with El Salvador’s history.

🔶️ Our approach builds on proven methodologies previously applied in the El Mirador basin, Guatemala, where LiDAR revealed extensive urban networks and monumental architecture, and at Copán, Honduras, where it refined mappings of ceremonial complexes. We anticipate similar insights in El Salvador.
