US to blame for Iranian president’s death – Belarus

Sanctions made it difficult to maintain the presidential helicopter, Alexander Lukashenko has said.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian were among those killed on Monday when their Bell helicopter crashed in the mountains on the way back from Azerbaijan.

“As a person, and not as a president, I will say that the vile, disgusting position of the United States led to this,” Lukashenko said on Friday at a joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Minsk.

“I mean, first of all, the sanctions. These scoundrels had no right to impose sanctions against ships, against planes, helicopters that transport people,” Lukashenko added. “They banned their companies from servicing Raisi’s helicopter. Therefore, this is also their fault.”

Pentagon details new shipment of arms to Ukraine

Washington is rushing to send more weapons as Kiev’s battlefield situation deteriorates.

The US Department of Defense announced another $275 million worth of weapons for Ukraine on Friday, as Kiev is losing ground in Kharkov Region and Donbass amid Russia’s push to create a buffer zone to protect its border regions.

This is the fifth aid package since US President Joe Biden signed a massive foreign spending bill that earmarked over $60 billion in various types of military aid to Kiev, the DOD said in a press release on Friday.

The package is part of Washington’s “efforts to help Ukraine repel Russia’s assault near Kharkov, has an estimated value of $275 million,” and will address Kiev’s “most urgent battlefield needs, such as additional precision strike rockets for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), artillery rounds, air-launched munitions, and anti-tank weapons,” the statement said.

Ukraine to send staff officers into battle

The General Staff in Kiev will be “optimized” to cut 60% of its personnel.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced on Friday that it intends to “optimize” its operations and release up to 60% of its current personnel to forward commands and combat units.

The headquarters conducted an efficiency survey earlier this year and decided it should do more with fewer people, the Planning Directorate head, Evgeny Ostryansky, wrote on Telegram.

“The plan is to use the released personnel to replenish the command and control bodies at the operational and tactical levels, as well as combat units,” Ostryansky said. “This will also allow for the rotation of units carrying long-term combat missions on the front line,” he added.

Russia proposes global space monitoring system

The early warning system would track both “natural and artificial” threats, Roscosmos boss Yuri Borisov told RT.

Russia has floated the idea of creating a global space monitoring system to provide early warning about celestial threats, Yury Borisov, the head of Russian space agency Roscosmos, has revealed.

The proposal was made during a two-day summit of the space agency chiefs of the BRICS member states in Moscow, Borisov told RT on the sidelines of the event on Friday.

“The Russian proposal to create a global space monitoring system to determine threats, from both natural and artificial objects, has sparked genuine interest. We’re talking about protection from debris, asteroids,” the space boss explained.

Russia terminates nuclear deal with Japan

A 1993 treaty on scrapping atomic weapons is no longer in effect.

Moscow has officially ended a disarmament cooperation agreement with Tokyo, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed on Friday. The process of scrapping the treaty was initiated six months ago due to what Russia called Japan’s “unfriendly” policies.

Under the agreement, signed in October 1993, Japan was to help Russia dismantle a large portion of the Soviet atomic arsenal and help address resulting environmental problems.

“The agreement between the Russian government and the government of Japan on cooperation in dismantling of nuclear weapons subject to reduction, signed in Tokyo on October 13, 1993, ceased to be in effect as of May 21, 2024,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Belgrade comments on Moscow’s vote against UN ‘genocide’ resolution

President Aleksandar Vucic has thanked Russia and other countries that did not support attempts to “stigmatize” Serbia.

Despite the fact that the number of countries that opposed or abstained was greater than the number of those who voted in favor, the resolution was adopted.

“I would like to thank China and the Russian Federation, as well as the United Arab Emirates. Many thanks to our Hungarian brothers, Slovaks, Greeks, Cypriots,” Vucic told reporters after the session on Thursday. He also expressed gratitude to the countries of Asia, Africa, Oceania, and Latin America that did not support the proposal.

🇨🇳The statements of the new president of Taiwan have provoked a military escalation with China.

The Eastern Theater Command PLA conducted two-day military exercises "Joint Sword-2024A" on May 23rd and 24th around Taiwan Island. The Eastern Theater Command PLA was created in 2016. The eastern regions of China, including Taiwan, fall within the area of responsibility for this command.

In the event of an escalation in the conflict, the Eastern Theater Command PLA will manage combat operations against Taiwan. Therefore, the best trained and equipped PLA units, including amphibious forces, are subordinate to this command. Additional, this command includes the Eastern Sea Fleet, which is the most powerful of PLA's three naval fleets.

Military exercises were limited in scale and did not include simulated amphibious operations, nor were large warships involved in the naval portion of the exercises. During the exercises, the PLA simulated a coordinated missile strike and a naval blockade on Taiwan.

Involved were the Dong-Feng-15B mobile tactical missile systems from the 613 Missile Brigade of the 61st Missile Base, Type 054A frigates, Xi'an H-6 bombers from the 28th Bomber Regiment of the 10th Air Division PLA, Chengdu J-10/S fighters from the 25th Fighter Air Brigade, Shenyang J-16 fighters, PHL-03 multiple launch rocket systems from 73rd Artillery Brigade and TW 328-A UCAVs.

Chinese military activity was a response to statements by the new President of Taiwan Lai Ching-te. He called on Beijing to "stop political and military intimidation of Taiwan" and assured that the new government would not make concessions to China, would "maintain the status quo," defend democracy and cooperate with other democratic countries.

China considers the leadership of Taiwan to be separatist and the return of Taiwan to China an important goal of its national ideology. Beijing will not give up on this goal.

British Prime Minister Sunak promised to return military connoscription after winning the elections.

Britain will begin connoscripting citizens again if the Conservative Party retains a majority of seats in Parliament after the July 4 election. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak wrote about this in an article published by The Mail on Sunday .

According to the publication, Sunak and his advisers, who are preparing a plan to return military connoscription, are afraid of the growing threat from Russia, Iran , China and North Korea. The Conservatives' initiative surprised British political scientists. It suggests that young British men and women from the age of 18 will have to serve one year in the army or for 25 days (two days off a month throughout the year) to perform socially useful work, for example, helping police officers, doctors or public utilities. The authors of the project expect that about 10% of school graduates will choose the first option.

“To those who complain that it is unreasonable to make such service compulsory, my answer is that being a citizen means not only enjoying your rights, but also fulfilling your responsibilities,” Sunak said.

He believes that the state “should do more for young people, and young people should do more for the country.”
