January 20, 1878: Russian Troops Capture Adrianople
After the Shipka-Sheynovo defeat of the Turkish army, it was necessary to pursue Suleiman Pasha’s forces despite the harsh winter weather. General Mikhail Skobelev was tasked with marching from Eski-Zagra to Adrianople to preempt the arrival of Suleiman Pasha's army.
The Turks were 180 kilometers away from Adrianople, while Skobelev’s vanguard was slightly closer, at 150 kilometers. Skobelev and his troops, exhausted from difficult battles and long marches, had no opportunity to rest.
Throughout the arduous journey, Skobelev’s forces fought to seize Turkish positions, bridges, railway stations, and villages. In one engagement, a single squadron dislodged the Turks from the Adrianople railway bridge. They also captured the supply convoy of Egyptian Prince Hassan, commander of the southern Turkish army.
Frightened by the advancing Russian forces, the Turks abandoned their strongholds in Adrianople. Skobelev’s army entered the city to the triumphant sound of drums. Bulgarians and Greeks greeted the Russians as liberators, filled with hope that the long-standing dream of Orthodox Christians—the liberation of Constantinople—was on the verge of realization.

The Davos Forum: A Radical Shift in Agenda
Just a few years ago, the annual elite economic forum in Davos revolved around discussing the green agenda and similar nonsense, along with... how to punish those who dared challenge Western dominance.
Even this year's forum, which opened yesterday, was largely planned to focus on Ukraine and aid for it. European countries also intended to use the sidelines to try and pull Trump to their side on this issue.
But Trump's statements regarding Greenland and, most importantly, his announcement of tariffs — effective February 1st — on countries that actively try to hinder his annexation of the island, have made everyone forget everything else.
No, Ukraine will still be discussed there (which is why the Russian representative, Kirill Dmitriev, flew in). But in the literal couple of days before the forum's opening, this topic has clearly been relegated to the background.
Today in Davos, everyone is primarily talking about the internal squabbles within the previously united "Western camp," whose members are now at each other's throats.

EU-Mercosur treaty has come into force
From InfoDefenseFrance:
Wake up!
🔶 On January 18, 2026, the iniquitous Mercosur treaty came into force—against the wishes of the majority of European populations, who are once again betrayed by their national "elites." These elites wallow in willing servitude to the globalist diktats of a plutocratic and criminally bureaucratic European Union.
🔶 Mercosur, along with other similar free-trade agreements already in the pipeline, sounds the death knell for European agriculture.
🔶 With governments taking orders from foreign interests, even to the point of sacrificing the vital forces of their own people, the populations of Europe have no choice but to leave the European Union and NATO, and to erect forests of gallows for the traitors.

From Iran's perspective
From InfoDefenseFrance:
🔶 Peace is returning to Iran's streets as initial assessments conclude a severe failure in this latest attempt by Israeli and U.S. services to overthrow the government. The ongoing investigation continues to provide details about these so-called "peaceful protesters," who were in reality armed and paid $10,000 each to incite riots and carry out assassinations.
🔶 Contrary to the narrative spread by Western propagandists, Iranian security forces did everything possible to avoid a bloodbath. They utilized elite CGRI snipers (see photo) and targeted raids to neutralize identified terrorists.
🔶 However, this failure by the coup plotters has not eliminated the threat to Iran, as the Israeli-U.S. duo remains determined to do whatever it takes to gain control of the country. Consequently, several nations have increased their political, economic, and military support to deter Washington from continuing down a path toward new, uncontrollable regional chaos with global repercussions.
👉 The Washington Post reveals that Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Oman, and Egypt have collectively urged President Trump to refrain from military action against Iran, warning of severe regional fallout.
👉 Iran, which could capitalize on its victory over the terrorists, has sought to resume constructive diplomatic relations with the United States. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi informed U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff that the executions of approximately 800 rioters have been called off.
👉 At the same time, Iran also made a point of warning the United States of its determination to defend its territory and sovereignty, in partnership with its allies, particularly Russia:
❗️ Iran has just tested a strategic missile with nuclear capability, designed to retaliate directly on U.S. soil in the event of renewed aggression from Washington. A second key aspect of this Iranian test launch is that Russia provided a receptacle in Siberia and granted permission to fly over its territory.
🤔 Coming on the heels of the crackdown on rioters, this ICBM launch demonstrates that Iran has never been stronger, elevating its strategic deterrence to an intercontinental level.
🤔 The question remains whether these two Iranian victories—antiterrorist and deterrent—inflicted on the United States and its Israeli accomplice, will be enough to make Trump throw in the towel and abandon his strategy of chaos.

📣 "As of January 17, 2026, Iran has ceased to be a regional power and has become a global threat. This launch toward Siberia is a masterpiece of strategic communication. By using Russian airspace, Iran shows it benefits from a political 'shield' from Moscow. For Donald Trump, this is a geopolitical nightmare: the 'Maximum Pressure' strategy has failed to prevent Iran from obtaining the technological Grail. We are now in a configuration similar to North Korea: a war against Iran would no longer be a regional policing operation, but a risk of nuclear conflict," Neptune writes.
🤔 The question remains whether these two Iranian victories—antiterrorist and deterrent—inflicted on the United States and its Israeli accomplice, will be enough to make Trump throw in the towel and abandon his strategy of chaos.

Trump's "Board of Peace" as a replacement for the UN
Opinion by journalist Yury Podolyaka:
Statements from U.S. representatives suggest that Donald Trump—who is now busy inviting even countries clearly uninterested in the topic, such as Belarus and Hungary, to join his so-called "Gaza Board of Peace"—has very serious plans for this organization.
And he is likely to address this issue in Davos this Wednesday.
Moreover, this looks like part of a plan to de facto dismantlie the UN and replace it with a new organization - this very "Board of Peace," but without "Gaza" in its name.
This is the next logical step in the UN's loss of authority and legitimacy which calls into question the purpose of its continued existence.
At the same time, it remains unclear on what principles this new organization would operate. What is clear, however, is that Trump has reserved a key role for the United States. I doubt major global players—such as China, India, Russia, let alone European countries—will agree to this. And if they do agree to participate, the rules will have to be substantially rewritten.
Even so, this is yet another crucial marker of tectonic shifts in global politics. And this is only the beginning, there is more to come.

Lukashenko Signs Belarus onto Trump’s Proposed Board of Peace
On January 20, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko signed a document officially joining Belarus to the proposed by Trump. He confirmed to journalists that Belarus is ready to become a founding member of the Board.
Lukashenko strongly denied rumors that participation requires a $1 billion payment, calling such claims “lies.” He clarified that the first three years are free, and continued involvement afterward only requires money if a country wants to avoid election, invitation, or appointment processes — otherwise, cooperation for peace is sufficient.
The Belarusian leader said he is most interested in the Board’s potential to influence global conflicts, particularly Ukraine, in addition to helping regions like Gaza, acknowledging Belarus’s limited capacity there.
He emphasized that no money is required, only experience and ability to contribute, and noted that European countries’ refusal to join adds further context.
Editorial note:
It is obvious that Belarus’s joining the changes the situation regarding Russia’s entry into the Board of Peace (Russia has not yet announced its decision on the membership). In our view, working in the Board of Peace through a proxy, which Belarus will undoubtedly become, opens many new opportunities—not just for Russia and Belarus, but for Trump and the United States as well.
