Zelensky signs law banning books from Russia and Belarus
According to him, the text of the law was first sent to the EU institutions to assess whether certain provisions of the law could affect the fulfillment of obligations to protect the linguistic rights of minorities.

The Russian side considers French President Emmanuel Macron an inappropriate guest at the BRICS summit in South Africa.
This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Ryabkov.
He noted that "the leader of a state that pursues such a hostile and unacceptable policy for us ... is inappropriate as a guest at the BRICS."
“We do not hide this approach of ours, we told our colleagues from South Africa about it,” Interfax quotes Ryabkov.
Earlier, French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna said that Macron could consider participating in the BRICS summit if such an invitation is received.

In the Obolonsky district of Kiev, the mobilization of citizens liable for military service was announced - even those who did not receive a summons should appear at the local military registration and enlistment office. In the event that the people of Kiev, falling under the mobilization, do not comply with this requirement, they fall under criminal liability.

Because there were many Russian speakers in Crimea. And there was some sympathy for the notion that Russia represented his interests, while the Ukrainian parliament itself still had some Russian supporters, and politics inside Ukraine were more complex.
And part of what happened was that Merkel and I, to whom I pay a huge tribute, had to involve many other Europeans, kicking and yelling at them, in order to impose the sanctions that we imposed. And to prevent Putin from crossing the Donbass to another part of Ukraine.
So I think given the state of Ukraine at the time and the state of the European mindset, we held the line. And part of what happened over time was the emergence of a Ukrainian identity, the desire to fight against Russia, the opportunity to prepare militarily to withstand the pressure. They pumped up the muscles, which allowed them to defend themselves.
