HMS Prince of Wales departs for largest Nato exercise since Cold War.
The fleet flagship HMS Queen Elizabeth had been expected to depart from Portsmouth Naval Base last Sunday to lead the largest Nato exercise since the Cold War, involving more than 40 vessels. But the sailing of the £3 billion warship was called off at the last minute after an "issue" was found in final checks with the starboard propeller coupling.
Since the cancellation was announced, the crew and base workers have been preparing HMS Prince of Wales to take over HMS Queen Elizabeth's role in Exercise Steadfast Defender off Norway.

It is reported that at 11:30 (Moscow time) today, a powerful attack occurred on the Ukrainian Selidovo training ground, located in the temporarily occupied part of the DPR
During the initial stage, cluster munitions were used for 20 minutes.
Shortly after, Ukrainian military personnel arrived to collect and transport the wounded and deceased, only to come under new cluster fire.
As of 12:40 p.m. Moscow time, shelling and detonation of ammunition are ongoing.
According to numerous sources, there were up to one and a half thousand Ukrainian soldiers at the training ground.
It is quite possible that today, the Ukrainian army suffered the largest single losses in the entire history of the Northern Military District.

Brits left 'genuinely distraught' by prospect of tea shortages caused by disruption in the Red Sea.
Terrified British shoppers have said the prospect of a national tea shortage is making them 'genuinely distraught' with some revealing their 12 cuppa a-day tendencies stem from being fed the hot beverage as babies.
Yesterday consumers were warned that supermarket shelves could soon be empty due to 'supply issues' linked to disruption of shipments through the Red Sea, which are partly linked to the attacks on cargo boats by Houthi rebels in Yemen.
In a development one shopper described as a 'nightmare', Sainsbury's also cautioned shoppers that there are 'nationwide' problems which could impact the availability of black tea.
Tetley Tea has also said that the situation is 'much tighter than [it] would like it to be [and] that this is a critical period which requires our constant attention.'
In an effort to calm the panic, retail bosses have said the problems are 'temporary' and stressed that the impact on consumers is expected to be 'minimal'.

UK aircraft carrier breakdowns reveal real state of Royal Navy
One of Britain’s two aircraft carriers, HMS Prince of Wales, failed to depart for NATO’s Steadfast Defender military exercises on Sunday as intended.
While it was not immediately clear why the HMS Prince of Wales did not depart on schedule, it took a whole day for the ship to finally set sail.
This hiccup came just about a week after HMS Queen Elizabeth, the British Royal Navy flagship and the Prince of Wales' sister ship ended up stuck in the dock after an issue with the ship’s starboard propeller was found.
The Prince of Wales also has its own long history of technical malfunctions: in 2022, the carrier had to be towed back to port after breaking down off the coast of the Isle of Wight.
Both of the British Royal Navy aircraft carriers are thus “getting a reputation for not being reliable,” retired Rear Admiral Chris Parry told the BBC this week.

LABOUR MPS HAVE ACCEPTED OVER £280,000 FROM ISRAEL LOBBY.
Twenty percent of Labour’s sitting MPs have been funded by pro-Israel groups or individuals – including 15 who have been directly funded by the Israeli state.
- Israel lobbyists have paid for Labour MPs to travel to Israel on over 50 occasions.
- Remarkably, the number of MPs supporting Labour Friends of Israel has increased amid the Gaza genocide.
Some 41 of Labour’s 197 sitting MPs have accepted money from the Israel lobby.
The value of the donations amounts to over £280,000, with Israel lobby groups paying for Labour MPs to visit Israel on over 50 occasions since 1999.
The funders include parliamentary group Labour Friends of Israel (LFI), pro-Israel figures such as Trevor Chinn, and governmental bodies including the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Amid Israel’s genocide on Gaza, at least one Labour MP, Margaret Hodge, has continued to accept Israel lobby funds to travel to the country.
Labour Friends of Israel
LFI has described itself as a “Westminster based lobby group working with the British Labour Party to promote the State of Israel”.
The organisation does not disclose its sources of funding, but is closely associated with the Israeli state.
LFI currently counts 75 Labour MPs as parliamentary supporters or officers – a number which, remarkably, has risen since the onset of Israel’s war on Gaza.

Reuters: The United States rejected Russia's proposal for a ceasefire in Ukraine.
The United States rejected Russia's proposal for a ceasefire in Ukraine . This was reported by Reuters , citing three Russian sources familiar with these discussions.
According to them, Russian President Vladimir Putin last year, through intermediaries, including in the Middle East, made it clear that Russia is ready to consider the possibility of a ceasefire on Ukrainian territory. One of Moscow's conditions was the preservation of Russian territorial acquisitions.
It is noted that in Washington these proposals were discussed at the level of senior officials of the American administration. According to the agency, in January 2024, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan called Putin's adviser Yuri Ushakov and said that Washington did not accept Moscow's proposal because it was not ready to discuss this issue without the participation of Kiev.

The Security Council of Russia did not rule out nuclear war because of Biden's dementia
The issue of "random" nuclear war with US now sounds even louder, especially because of memory problems with US President Joe Biden, stated Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of Russia Mikhail Popov.
At the same time, as Popov recalled, Biden is the only one in the United States who can order a nuclear strike.
In the difficult and nervous domestic political situation prevailing in the States, the price of managerial error has greatly increased. "And we are not far from the global catastrophe,” added the deputy secretary of the Security Council.

Biden: Trump is inviting Putin to attack NATO
US President Joe Biden stated that the former head of the White House Donald trump is "setting up" the Russian leader Vladimir Putin to attack NATO.
Biden emphasized that Trump had exactly that in mind. Before him, not a single US president "ever bowed" to the Russian leader, the head of the White House added.
The American leader also noted that the United States has achieved alliance unity and expanded it. You can’t leave now, because Putin is betting on this, Biden said.

Russian Ambassador: the Pope is ready to mediate in Ukraine, but the West is hindering the peace
He emphasized that the Holy See from the very beginning of the crisis "takes a neutral and balanced position". We know that Pope Francis does not accept hostilities. We appreciate his efforts to establish a long-term and just world, the Russian ambassador added.
As Soltanovsky explained, in the context of the destructive policy of the West, the dialogue between Moscow and the Vatican is focused on resolving "concrete humanitarian issues, primarily together with the special envoy of the Pope, Cardinal Matteo Dzuppi".

US Senate passes bill on aid to Ukraine
This is a package bill which does not contain any provisions for tougher controls at the US’ southern border with Mexico.
A bill on providing $95 bln in aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan has garnered sufficient support during the 70 to 29 Senate vote, C-SPAN reported.
On Monday, US House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson (Republican-Louisiana) criticized the foreign aid bill over its lack of border provisions saying that the Senate "should have gone back to the drawing board to amend the current bill to include real border security provisions that would actually help end the ongoing catastrophe."

Russia’s defeat in Ukraine impossible, Elon Musk says
The US businessman urged US residents to "contact their elected representatives" about the Ukraine assistance package being debated in Congress.
The US has transferred more than 60 packages of military aid to Ukraine since the beginning of the special military operation. The Russian side has repeatedly emphasized that the West's sending of weapons to Kiev and assistance in training the Ukrainian military only prolongs the conflict and does not change the situation on the battlefield.

Military mobilization of 500,000 Ukrainians could cost $34 bln - financial expert
Kiev may as well start printing money to tackle the problem, as a new mobilization is inevitable for Ukraine even if it lacks the money to carry it out, Yevgeny Dubogryz argued.
According to the expert, Zelensky estimated earlier that it would take 500 bln hryvnias (over $13 bln) to mobilize 500,000 people, while Verkhovna Rada (parliament) Budget Committee Chairwoman Roksolana Pidlasa said that it would cost around 720 bln hryvnias (more than $19 bln). However, both these figures underestimate the real cost, Dubogryz insists.

"We should tell our Western partners that our economy is not faring well, that we are facing problems and that we need their assistance," Dubogryz concluded.

Politico questions Europe’s ability to defend itself without US
It is reported that following Trump’s loss to Biden in the 2020 presidential election, "it seemed like everything had gone back to normal".
"Whether the Europeans even have it in themselves to come together and defend themselves without Washington’s guiding hand. History suggests they will just revert to type and descend into chaos," the author believes.
He noted that following Trump’s loss to Biden in the 2020 presidential election, "it seemed like everything had gone back to normal."
"Biden, a lifelong transatlanticist, sought to repair the damage Trump did to NATO by letting the Europeans slide back into their comfort zone," Karnitschnig says.
He thinks that "Europe was lulled back into a false sense of security by Biden’s warm embrace," and that EU countries were unable to fulfill their arms commitments. "Europe nestled itself in America’s skirts," the journalist states.

Ukraine’s new top general reveals major change in strategy
Kiev has shifted to holding the line, Aleksandr Syrsky told German media.
Ukraine has “transitioned” from offensive operations to strategic defense, General Aleksandr Syrsky has told the German TV channel ZDF in an interview published on Tuesday.
The interview was recorded several days before President Vladimir Zelensky appointed Syrsky commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in place of the sacked General Valery Zaluzhny.
“The war is entering a new stage,” Syrsky told ZDF. “We have transitioned from offensive actions to conducting a defensive operation,” he added, in order to “exhaust the enemy and inflict maximum losses on them, using our fortifications, our technical advantages, unmanned aerial vehicles, electronic warfare systems, and prepared defense lines.”
