For more than a year, our friends and comrades Evgeny Rubashko, Alexander Belov and Artem Solovey have been in captivity. They were sentenced to 5 years in prison each for participating in the 2020 protest marches in Belarus and the alleged participation in the "extremist formation" Pramen.
Who are Sasha, Zhenya and Artem? What are their values? What are they interested in? Why did they stay in Belarus? We talked about this with friends of the guys.
«Together with Sasha, we prepared hot meals for people in need in the Food Not Bombs initiative. Although, soon after he joined the initiative, I moved to another country, so, unfortunately, we did not manage to get to know each other well.
Our next meeting happened in August 2020. Sasha seemed to me a very open person who loves people and making conversation. He can tell stories non-stop. At the same time, he is very attentive and perfectly understands your taste. He will go out with you for a smoke when he sees that you are boiling, he will write “how are you” exactly when it is most needed. He can easily make you laugh.
I remember that that period - autumn - the beginning of winter 2020 - was very difficult for me mentally, and Sasha helped me a lot to get through it. Not all people are ready to face a person in a severe depressive state, because it is like a black hole that absorbs everything good and positive, and there are fewer and fewer people around. He knew how to support me even in the darkest times. Sasha turned out to be one of those people who are not afraid of either repression or depression :)
Sasha seems to be a person who does not lose heart and who does not care about anything. But he really needs support too! I can imagine how he misses interesting conversations now.»

Кто такие Саша, Женя и Артем? Какие у них ценности? Чем они увлекаются? Почему они оставались в Беларуси? Об этом мы поговорили с друзьями ребят.
«Женя передал мне напиток "Чёрный знахарь" через общих беларуских друзей друзей, приехавших в Петербург. Я обещала передать ему в ответ с ними книжку, но этого не случилось – Женю задержали. Это всегда происходило где-то рядом, но ещё никогда в моей жизни не подбиралось так близко.
Буквально за неделю до этого мы с группой "Лоно" съездили играть концерты в Беларусь, где и познакомились с Женей. Он оказался замечательным, добрым и душевным человеком, как и все ребята, кого я там узнала. Я помню, что мы замечательно провели время в Витебске, но вспоминать отдельные моменты тяжело – всё судорожно спутывается. И мысли сразу перекрываются воспоминанием о том, как я впервые увидела новость о задержании. Судорожно обновляла страницу belarus_abc и перепроверяла в интернете значение слов “ст. 342 УК”. Смотрела, закрывала и перепроверяла снова, не верилось как-то.
Потом вспоминаю как тяжело было писать письмо в первый раз – в нём я написала рецензию на музыку, что Женя мне порекомендовал накануне. Потому что не знала, что ещё могу ему сказать. Прочитав в правилах переписки с заключёнными о том, что нельзя использовать английские слова, неказисто переводила названия групп и надеялась, что он поймёт, что я имею в виду. Я не знаю, получил ли он то письмо.

И я подарила ему жетон на игру в пинбол из питерского бара "Поддон", чтобы он приехал и поиграл. И помню, как расстроилась, когда он сказал, что у него запрет на въезд в Россию. Мы тогда ещё договорились, что он приедет через 5 лет, кажется. Очень сумбурно получилось… Я просто надеюсь, что у Жени всё будет хорошо».

«Zhenya gave me the drink "Chernyj Znahar" through mutual Belarusian friends of friends who came to St. Petersburg. I promised to give him a book with them in return, but this did not happen - Zhenya was detained. It always happened somewhere nearby, but never in my life did it get so close.
Literally a week before that, our band Lono and I went to play concerts in Belarus, where we met Zhenya. He turned out to be a wonderful, kind and sincere person, like all the guys I met there. I remember that we had a wonderful time in Vitebsk, but it’s hard to remember individual moments - everything is tangled. And thoughts are immediately blocked by the memory of how I first saw the news of the arrest. I frantically updated the belarus_abc page and double-checked the meaning of the words “Art. 342 of the Criminal Code”. I looked, closed and double-checked again, I couldn’t believe it somehow.
Then I remember how hard it was to write a letter for the first time - in it I wrote a review of the music that Zhenya recommended to me. Because I didn't know what else to say. Having read in the rules of correspondence with prisoners that English words cannot be used, I awkwardly translated the names of the groups and hoped that he would understand what I mean. I don't know if he received that letter.
Zhenya is a very bright and warm person, probably the brightest person I have ever met. I remember he said he liked to play pinball. And I gave him a pinball token from the Podon bar in St. Petersburg so that he would come and play. And I remember how upset I was when he said that he had a ban on entering Russia. We then agreed that he would come in 5 years ... I just hope that Zhenya will be fine».

«Там в людях было много тюрьмы. Женя эту тюрьму
разбивал»
Сегодня на сайте ПЦ «Вясна» появился рассказ политзаключенного Василия (фамилия не указана) о его заключении в тюрьме. Из рассказа следует, что во время пребывания в СИЗО-1 на Володарского, он находился в одной камере в нашим товарищем, анархистом Евгением Рубашко. О нём Василий рассказывает следующее:
«Мне кажется, это человек, который больше всего в моей жизни на меня повлиял. Женя – человек превозмогающий. Вопреки всему он будет гнуть свою линию. Это человек, который будет спорить с вертухаями, если они не правы. Человек, который абсолютно не заблуждается в своих правах. Человек, которого очень сложно отравить тюрьмой. Человек, который умеет чувствовать, думать. Ему хотелось делиться. Там в людях было много тюрьмы. Женя эту тюрьму разбивал».

Today Viasna Human Rights Centre has posted the story of political prisoner Vasily (last name was not provided) about his imprisonment. It becomes clear from the story that while he was in the Detention center #1 on Volodarskogo street, he shared his prison cell with our comrade, anarchist Evgeny Rubashko. Here is what Vasily says about him:
«I think he's the person that had the strongest influence on me in my life. Zhenya is the person who overcomes everything. No matter what, he stands his ground. He's the person to argue with prison guards if they are wrong. The person than absolutely knows his rights. The person who is very difficult to poison with prison. The person who can feel and think. And he wanted to give. There's much prison inside people there. Zhenya was destroying that prison.»

Василия вывели из квартиры в наручниках и повезли в ГУБОПиК. Впереди были карцер Окрестина, четыре месяца на Володарке и приговор в три года «химии».

Вечер солидарности с беларускими анархистами во Вроцлаве
В конце февраля во Вроцлаве прошел вечер солидарности с заключенными анархистами в Беларуси. Участники мероприятия посмотрели экспериментальный документальный фильм «Вырезанные» (Cut Out), в котором наши товарищи рассказывают о Жене Рубашко, Саше Белове и Артёме Соловье, а так же фильм «3 дня свободы». Все желающие подписали открытки для заключённых участников инициативы FNB-Minsk.
Мероприятие было организовано АЧК-Вроцлав.
Нам очень важно, чтобы история наших товарищей была услышана в разных странах, чтобы об их несправедливом заключении узнало как можно больше людей. Мы верим, что несмотря на высокие стены тюрем, они остаются свободными!

The participants of the event watched an experimental documentary «Cut out», in which our comrades talk about Evgeny Rubashko, Alexander Belov, and Artem Solovey, as well as the film «3 Days of Freedom». Those interested could sign postcards for the imprisoned participants of the FNB-Minsk initiative.
The event was organized by ABC-Wroclaw.
It is very important for us that the story of our comrades be heard in different countries, so that as many people as possible learn about their unjust imprisonment. We believe that despite the high walls of prisons, they remain free!
Please, don't forget to write letters and support people in prison! Solidarity is our weapon!
