After the official release, Avowed was unable to reach 20 000 concurrent players on Steam. The results are devastating for such a big game with all the advertisements they have done during the last couple of months.

Yes, I'm sure, millions are playing via XBox subnoscription (no), but keep in mind that even The Veilguard managed to reach 5+ times more players.

It seems that AI Windows laptops have failed miserably and Apple is falling right behind:

The majority of the AI tools are unable to use NPU acceleration, but utilize integrated graphics instead. Ones that do are providing insignificant advantages.

The tools themselves are barely usable and very often a niche, so they can be instead used from the browser on any device.

Somehow, despite a very impressive launch, NetEase just fired a lot of Marvel Rivals developers. #LayOffs@GameDEV #WTF@GameDEV
NetEase representative confirmed that they fired the American team behind Marvel Rivals, it was "a hard decision", and it was financially motivated to hire cheap labour elsewhere.

They see it slightly differently though: the game now requires a bigger live-ops team that will not be sustainable as western studio where each worker costs 3-6 times more.

To place the release of Avowed into perspective, here are some other release numbers (some are outdated and even greater now).

15 600 players is nothing — lower than Pathfinder games, lower than Rogue Trader. Despite those games are kinda niche.

There is a totally new for me genre if idle games when the game isn't fullscreen, but instead a tiny window on the corner or a side:

Not sure if I'd do it, since "multitasking" doesn't truly exist. But seems curious, no less.

Simon noticed that in Anno 1800 there is a fixed sun position enabled by default, making the sun always light up the scene from right to left, leaving fairly long shadows and making buildings more distinguishable.

On the right you can see what happens with more realistic stable sun positioning. It is harder to look and track each separate part of the city.

Which means: don't be afraid to break rules, don't rely on realism fully. Sometimes it may sound odd, it may be unreal, but still does the job better.
