An exclusive look at the redesigned bottom chat bar and profile page in Google Messages 😍

Edit - Blog Post - https://thespandroid.blogspot.com/2023/11/Google-Message-Profile-Chat-UI-Redesign.html

This change brings some much needed improvements regarding UI changes in the chat screen which haven't seen much changes since a while. Recently Google started testing something with chat backgrounds. Now the profile UI looks much better and matches the overall design of the rest of the Google Messages app.

Google App re-orders some of its settings

Settings are better categorised now :)

Version (beta) - 14.47.33.28.arm64

No flags required. (Edit - I didn't flip any flag but as nail pointed out here, it may require some flag to be flipped by Google)

Choose between Assistant with Bard and the classic Google Assistant

To use this feature, change to classic Assistant in Settings

Not all of the classic Assistant settings will be available in Assistant with Bard.

Well, these are some strings from the Google app which will be powered by "Assistant with Bard" in a few upcoming months. I have been reading similar strings from some updates in the Google app and here are a few things -

1. When "Assistant with Bard" launches for everyone, the old assistant will be called "Classic Assistant".

2. Not all features of the current Assistant will work with the "Assistant with Bard". So you have to choose between a fancy AI and current assistant. You can't have both at the same time.

3. If you don't like the AI shitshow, you can always head back to "Classic Assistant" from settings which will be available inside the Google app.

Enable the new Read Aloud UI in Google app [ROOT]

This change brings a more minimal and good looking UI for the read aloud functionality.

📦 Package - com.google.android.apps.search.readaloud#com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox

(Some people may not find this package because Google didn't enable it for them. So you can try uninstalling the updates of Google app and then re-install the app)

🏳️ Flag - 45399805

Tested in Google app (beta) version - 14.46.33.28.arm64

The Google messages team is on a roll this month. Just found a cool new feature which seems like a copy (not an exact copy and not a big feature, just some UI experience related) of a telegram feature. Article coming soon. 👀 Can you guess? 😁

Google Message to add some new animation for message reactions 🎉

These are not your usual animated emoji reactions which you may have in Google Messages, this is something similar to message reactions in Telegram.

Google Calendar app will no longer support devices running Android 7.1 and below

After Google Chrome, it's Google Calendar now. There is no official announcement regarding this by Google. So I am just sharing some things which I noticed in recent Google Calendar updates. The screenshot is real 🫣.

Google Messages quietly added support for Ultra HDR images in RCS Chats

The flag for this feature was added just before the Pixel 8 series launch. While RCS compresses and removes some of the metadata from the images when we send them, the gainmap metadata which makes them Ultra HDR, will not be removed.

Thanks to @spawnpointdes for testing and @MishaalRahman for confirming about it (someone tested it in his discord group a few weeks ago)

What's the purpose of AiCore app ?

Many people are wondering what this app is for ? The Play Store denoscription doesn't provide much info except - "Al Core powers features across Android and provides apps with the latest Al models."

So what features are actually going to be powered by these AI models ? I did an apk teardown of the latest AiCore app and found some things about the features.

1. It's obvious that AiCore will download & run AI models to provide features for other Google Apps.

2. Here are a few lines of code from the apk-
•...aicore.aidl.IImageGenerationResultCallback
- For generating images

•...aicore.aidl.IProofreadingResultCallback
- For proofreading text

•...aicore.aidl.ISmartReplyResultCallback
- For smart reply (In Google Assistant probably)

•...aicore.aidl.ISuggestedTextResultCallback - No idea

•...aicore.aidl.ISummarizationResultCallback
- For text summary in Google Recorder

•...aicore.aidl.IMagicRewriteService
- Probably related to images.

Some of these features are exclusively for Pixel 8 series they will use the power of Tensor G3 for it. AiCore is still available only for Pixel 8 Pro, but we might see it supporting Pixel 8 and older pixels(!doubt!) as well. Running these models natively will remove the need to rely on the cloud for processing text and images.

I have seen the code of Google Message as well and it is going to use the AiCore for some features. It is possible we will see some new features in Google Features which rely on these models.

Also note that the feature list I provided is not complete so there could be more things.

Inbuilt "Read Aloud" functionality in Google Chrome for Android

Available in Chrome Canary with flag chrome://flags/#read-aloud . It doesn't rely on the Google app for this feature and has a nice UI. You will see the "Listen to this page" option on supported pages.

The flag has been present from some time but the feature really didn't work because google is still working on it, but it worked with a recent canary update.

Edit : Looks like Twitter users Leopeva64 shared about it on Twitter some days ago - https://twitter.com/Leopeva64/status/1725023802201891042
