The Google messages team is on a roll this month. Just found a cool new feature which seems like a copy (not an exact copy and not a big feature, just some UI experience related) of a telegram feature. Article coming soon. 👀 Can you guess? 😁

Google Message to add some new animation for message reactions 🎉
These are not your usual animated emoji reactions which you may have in Google Messages, this is something similar to message reactions in Telegram.

Google Calendar app will no longer support devices running Android 7.1 and below
After Google Chrome, it's Google Calendar now. There is no official announcement regarding this by Google. So I am just sharing some things which I noticed in recent Google Calendar updates. The screenshot is real 🫣.

Google Messages quietly added support for Ultra HDR images in RCS Chats
The flag for this feature was added just before the Pixel 8 series launch. While RCS compresses and removes some of the metadata from the images when we send them, the gainmap metadata which makes them Ultra HDR, will not be removed.

Thanks to @spawnpointdes for testing and @MishaalRahman for confirming about it (someone tested it in his discord group a few weeks ago)

What's the purpose of AiCore app ?
Many people are wondering what this app is for ? The Play Store denoscription doesn't provide much info except - "Al Core powers features across Android and provides apps with the latest Al models."
So what features are actually going to be powered by these AI models ? I did an apk teardown of the latest AiCore app and found some things about the features.
1. It's obvious that AiCore will download & run AI models to provide features for other Google Apps.
2. Here are a few lines of code from the apk-
•...
- For generating images
•...
- For proofreading text
•...
- For smart reply (In Google Assistant probably)
•...
•...
- For text summary in Google Recorder
•...
- Probably related to images.

Some of these features are exclusively for Pixel 8 series they will use the power of Tensor G3 for it. AiCore is still available only for Pixel 8 Pro, but we might see it supporting Pixel 8 and older pixels(!doubt!) as well. Running these models natively will remove the need to rely on the cloud for processing text and images.
I have seen the code of Google Message as well and it is going to use the AiCore for some features. It is possible we will see some new features in Google Features which rely on these models.
Also note that the feature list I provided is not complete so there could be more things.

Inbuilt "Read Aloud" functionality in Google Chrome for Android
Available in Chrome Canary with flag
The flag has been present from some time but the feature really didn't work because google is still working on it, but it worked with a recent canary update.
Edit : Looks like Twitter users Leopeva64 shared about it on Twitter some days ago - https://twitter.com/Leopeva64/status/1725023802201891042

chrome://flags/#read-aloud . It doesn't rely on the Google app for this feature and has a nice UI. You will see the "Listen to this page" option on supported pages. The flag has been present from some time but the feature really didn't work because google is still working on it, but it worked with a recent canary update.

Google working on a boarding pass detection feature in Chrome for Android
I shared about Chrome adding boarding pass detection feature some days ago. Google added the flag for it 15 days ago in Chrome Canary.
How it's going to work - Basically google is using a predefined list of URLs of various Airlines where they allow users to get their boarding passes. So google will automatically detect such URLs and check for any boarding pass related data. If it detects such data, it may give users some options to save boarding passes to Google Wallet!! Currently the feature doesn't work at all.
I am not sure about the Google wallet part, I am just guessing it because Google recently added boarding pass QR detection in its Platform QR Scanner which prompts users to save passes to wallet after scanning a QR.

#GooglePlayServices With the recent update of Google Play Services, there are various flags of Google apps missing from the Phenotype database. As a result, some feature flags which I shared in channel are completely disappeared and can not be turned on/off…
This shit is getting more ridiculous and looks like it's intentional from Google and not any bug. I use custom ROMs and recently after switching to a different ROM, most of the flags are not there in the database. It is totally fucked up. Switching between GMS versions doesn't help and I even tried 2-3 other ROMs but has the same issue on all.
Google is already making using custom ROMs a lot difficult because they are enforcing the play integrity shit and most of the ROMs are failing device integrity checks. Using magisk module based solutions like Play Integrity Fix doesn't last long as Google is banning the build fingerprints outright making such modules useless in a matter of time.

Google Contacts to get a separate section for contact ringtones
This new section will make it easier to set ringtones for contacts from a single page by picking any contact you want. You can also play the ringtones here which you have set for a contact. If you have set custom ringtones for any contact before, they will also appear here.
Contact version -
Work in progress, so not rolling out soon.

PhotoMoji 😁
Ignore the crash, probably caused by some flag which I shouldn't have turned on.
