🇺🇸⚡️ WOW: Colossal Biosciences has achieved a major milestone in the field of de-extinction, successfully creating three genetically modified wolf pups that carry the key traits of the more than 13000-year-extinct dire wolf.

➡️ This marks the closest attempt to revive a species that disappeared 13,000 years ago.

➡️ In 2021, scientists retrieved DNA from dire wolf fossils, which were used by Colossal researchers to edit 20 genes in gray wolves, imbuing them with the defining features of the extinct species.

➡️ The resulting embryos were implanted in surrogate dogs, leading to the birth of the pups: two male wolves, Romulus and Remus (6 months old), and a female, Khaleesi (2 months old).

➡️ Colossal's chief scientific officer, Beth Shapiro, described the pups as the first successful case of de-extinction, noting they represent functional copies of a species once lost to history.

➡️ The pups are currently housed at a private 2,000-acre facility in the northern U.S., where they will be studied further. Colossal’s success brings the dream of de-extinction closer to reality and adds to the growing field of synthetic biology.
