Ankara’s currency crisis has started to impact on hospitals now lacking essential items needed for emergency surgeries. (Birgün Daily)

One alleged reason behind the health crisis is The Justice and Development Party failed to pay outstanding medical debt over the past two years - a timeline which has seen the lira lose half its value.

Some medical supply companies have refused to ship much-needed items until payments of the $204.5 million debt begin again.

Germany on Brink of Winter Recession

Projections published Tuesday by the Ifo Institute for Economic Research shows Germany’s economy will shrink 0.5% in the last quarter of 2021 compared to the third and continue stagnating in Q1 of 2022.

Supply chain bottlenecks and Covid restrictions are cited as reasons for Ifo slashing growth forecast for 2022 by 1.4 points to 3.7%, as well as forecasting inflation to rise from 3.1% this year to 3.3% in 2022 in Europe’s largest economy.

Germany also last week recorded its highest number of daily Covid deaths since February as the country banned unvaccinated people from all but essential businesses.

Creditors SUE China Evergrande for Claims Topping $13 Billion (reports)

A Chinese court assigned to handle civil lawsuits against Evergrande has accepted 367 cases - with claims totalling $13.2bn, according to court records. (Financial Times)

The cases were accepted between late August and earlier this month, in the period after financial regulators told the property developer to resolve its debt issues and prior to Fitch Ratings downgrading Evergrande to ‘restricted default’ last week.

According to the FT - citing an unnamed Evergrande exec - the company is not able to repay so many creditors with its limited resources.

'Iranian hackers' steal airline data by abusing Slack API

Suspected threat actors from Iran are deploying a newly-discovered backdoor called “Aclip” which reportedly abuses Slack API - an interface that makes covert communication easier. (BleepingComputer)

The hackers targeted an unidentified Asian airline as early as 2019 to steal flight reservation data.

The backdoor collects system information such as hostname, username and external IP address which is then encrypted and exfiltrated.
