London Metal Exchange Back Online After Five-Hour Outage
The London Metal Exchange (LME) was supposed to open at 1 a.m. local time but trading only resumed at 6:15 a.m via a backup data center, after a power failure had shut it down.
Traders were reportedly still able to operate on their phones, Bloomberg’s sources say. However, the exchange itself is vital to the market for delivering live price quotes for bellwether commodities like copper and aluminum.
The outage is one of several the LME suffered in the past 5 years, and might put the exchange’s entire existence in question, as recent trade volumes have dropped dramatically from pre-pandemic levels.

Log4j Long-term 'DESTRUCTIVE' Danger - Cyber Officials
The major software flaw could lead to long-term malicious activity, according to a senior US cyber security official. Log4j has allegedly been used by Chinese and Iranian hackers to track network and app activity.
Jen Easterly has called the vulnerability the “most serious in decades” that could be exploited by ransomware gangs and foreign govts for years to come.
It's estimated that hundreds of millions of devices are at risk, and although no foreign government-backed hackers have been confirmed to use it, CISA official Eric Goldstein said “that could all change."

US blood supply “dangerously low” — Red Cross
“The American Red Cross is facing a national blood crisis – its worst blood shortage in over a decade, posing a concerning risk to patient care,” the organization said in a press release Tuesday.
Blood banks across the US have been hit by staffing shortages and drops in donor turnout due to a surge in Covid-19 cases and adverse weather, the American Red Cross warned.
The groups said the ongoing surge in Covid cases and adverse weather are the main reasons behind the drop in donor turnout as blood centers suffer with staffing shortages therefore canceling blood drives.

Republican House candidate demands BAN on Chinese students in Texas
Shelley Luther drew accusations of racism from Democrats for arguing Chinese students should be banned from studying in Texas, insisting “Communists” have no place in US universities.
In a recently deleted tweet, Luther wrote “Chinese students should be BANNED from attending all Texas universities. No more Communists!” Before replacing it with, “Texas Taxpayers should not be subsidizing the next generation of CCP leaders.”
A Chinese media chief accused Luther of being a “notorious Nazi racist,” while Rep. Gene Wu, a Chinese-American Democrat said “[Her] statements are ignorant, hateful, and incite violence against not only Chinese Americans, but all Asian Americans.”
