The NIA will be doing some maintenance to the Intel map starting in ~10 minutes. Maintenance is expected to last ~30 minutes. During that timeframe, Intel will be unavailable.

We will report back as soon as maintenance is over and the Intel map is back online.

The NIA has confirmed that maintenance is over and the Intel map is now available.

Niantic has released Update 2.162.1 into the App Stores!

The release notes mention the addition of the duplicate map during nominating new Wayspots which is already live on 2.161.1 as well. This update also fixes an issue which prevented Recursed Agents from accessing the Portal Nominations until they reach L8 again as well as boosting portal visibility when under multiple fields.

Niantic has sold Pokemon Go, Pikmin Bloom and Monster Hunter Now to Scopely, as reported by us a short while back.

While these three games were specifically mentioned, Ingress is not mentioned and is not part of the deal, remaining with Niantic instead.

Confused which part of Niantic goes to Scopely and which goes to Niantic Spatial Inc.? We have tried to create a diagram which shows who gets what and how each product should interact with each other based on our current understanding.

Agents are reporting that a media, "PreviouslyOn", has started to drop from hacking portals (see: https://ingress.plus/media/12542)

Interestingly, the contents of the Media are already known from the Operation Chronos event in 2023 and even point to the same URL as a Media that was dropped around the same time: https://ingress.plus/media/11779

It is unknown why the exact same Media, but with a different name, has started to reappear in the Portal Network.

After yesterdays "PreviouslyOn", a new Media called "Cryptic_01" has made its way into the Portal Network.

This time the document contained is new and shows a research log entry from Akira Tsukasa created shortly before the Cryptic Memories Anomaly series began.

It seems like Niantic is catching up on the lore that was left at the wayside for the last few Anomaly seasons, trying to retroactively backfill it to catch up to today! Keep an eye out for more Media drops in the coming days.

As expected, a new Media item made its way into the Portal Network, "Cryptic_02".

This time, we find an analysis of a new XM Artifact which IQTech is experimenting on. As it turns out, Machina is not some sort of virus or force from another universe, but part of these experiments in which the unknown XM artifact is resonating in a way that enables it to propogate to dormant portals, turning them into new points from where this resonation can propogate.

Apparently, the XM Artifact emits a repeating Glyph Sequence which seems to have some parts of it missing. IQTech therefore theorizes that the XM Artifact uses its propagation to mechanically "search" for the missing parts in the Portal Network and has therefore codenamed it "Machina".

"Cryptic_03" was released earlier today, this time including a report from a Resistance Agent regarding an investigation into Portal anomalies. These anomalies are different to the "red portals" observed in prior operations.

This Agent also reports wanting to work together with Makoto Midorikawa, the Enlightened protagonist from the Ingress Anime, to investigate a certain incident at a hospital. This ties the new story back into the timelime of the Anime and also explains why the character medals we got during the 2024 anomalies were from characters of the Anime. This also explains that the "red portals" mentioned at the start of the report are likely a reference to the ones seen in the Anime, not Machina.

In February 2024 the Digital Service Act (DSA) went into effect in the EU which requires services which allow user submitted content to report their moderation efforts as well as the systems in place to help with it. This also includes Ingress for which Niantic has released a transparency report for the year 2024 last month.

While the DSA is focused on the EU only and the data only includes content from users in the EU it still does give us a very interesting look behind the scenes of Niantic Support and their moderation. Note that this only includes moderation efforts for "user submitted content", which in Ingress should only be COMM messages and Ingress Missions, not violations against TOS. All other content submitted like Portals are handled by the Wayfarer or Campfire team and are not listed here either.

For content reported by users in the EU:
- 214 notices submitted by users for illegal content or policy (Niantic Player Guidelines) violations
- 200 notices led to content removal
- Median response time for notices: 53.3 hours
- Manual Review Only – No automated processing

For content from users in the EU that Niantic removed on their own initiative:
- Uses manual review only (no automated tools)
- 38,149 pieces of content were removed proactively by Niantic

The DSA allows users to appeal moderation actions by Niantic, both actions taken against themselves (e.g. getting a warning for content that did not violate Player Guidelines) as well as action taken against others which the reporting user believe were not actioned on correctly (e.g. not removing a COMM message that violates Player Guidelines). In 2024, no user has made use of this mechanic.

Niantic also reports that there have been 13 suspensions from COMM for "accounts who repeatedly violate our policies" after having been issued a prior warning.

We continue the Media drops with "Cryptic_04", which contains a witness report from someone who claims to have seen two woman appearing from out of nowhere near the hospital.

In "Cryptic_05" we find out that Akiras experiment in crossing into another universe was successful. While she made it over the bridge without any apparent issue, Devra seems to have been affected cognitively and was hospitalized. While Akira ran, she noticed that Machina behaved differently in this new universe, only appearing in Portals near her instead of propagating like in her origin universe.

Hank Johnson joins us in "Cryptic_06" via an entry into his research journal in which he writes down his thoughts about an unnamed Artifact, likely the same one IQTech is experimenting on and which leads to the propagation of Machina.

He notes that the artifact produces Glyph Sequences that reference balances like Order and Chaos and Creation and Destruction. He believes that Machina follows the same pattern, searching the Portal Network for "Chaos" it can end. Hank theorizes that if this counterpart is found, Machina will stop its expansion through the network.

That being said, as Machina is responsible for "creating" portals, it stands to reason that its counterpart creates decay.

(Note: Looking at a timeline, the events happening in these lore drops all occured around a year ago during the Cryptic Memories anomaly. While not impossible, it is unlikely that any change to Machina or other elements today will be teased by these drops from a year ago.)
