The latest negotiations of the Kurdish delegation in Damascus predictably led to nothing.
Except that the parties confirmed their determination to continue these talks.
Recently, Turkey, by disrupting French mediation (simply forbidding the delegation from Julani to go to Paris), gained time to prepare an operation in the north; now we just have to wait for the Americans to leave from there.
I will not comment on the information about the proposal from the new progressive authorities to the Russians to patrol Daraa and Quneitra - that's really for fools. Better let them patrol Hasakah).

US Pushes Russia to Lead Peacekeeping in Lebanon – A Risky Game
Arabic media report that Putin and Trump may discuss deploying Russian peacekeepers in southern Lebanon during their Alaska meeting. The idea, allegedly from Trump, suggests replacing the UN force — a role Russia has not previously considered.
If true, this looks like Washington trying to make Moscow handle a volatile situation. Lebanon faces high civil war risks, and any intervention is fraught with danger.
The US would benefit either way: credit for peace if it succeeds, blame on Russia if it fails.
However, the plan seems unlikely. Russia lacks a strong position in the region, especially with Syria still unstable. Getting drawn into a high-risk mission for US interests would be a strategic mistake.
After Quneitra in #Syria , Russia invited by the US to provide peacekeeping forces to relieve current personnel in Southern #Lebanon

Why Trump chose Alaska? The Bering Strait connection.
A Russian builder, working on the massive new Lena River Bridge (due 2027), jokingly wrote to Alaska’s governor: Russia is fulfilling its 1990 USSR-US treaty obligation—why not restart the Bering Strait tunnel project? Surprisingly, the governor replied.
This revived a 135-year-old idea. The US even funded its study in 1996. In 2010, the tunnel was estimated at $63B (now $100–120B), with a 50–60 year payback. Trump likely saw its strategic and economic potential—linking Asia to North America via Russia’s Arctic corridor.

Ugandan ICJ judge Julia Sebutinde has hit back at her government for condemning her dissenting opinion in the Israel-Gaza case
Speaking at a church event on August 10, the 71-year-old jurist said,
“The whole world was against Israel, including my country... the Lord is counting on me”.
She was the only judge to oppose the ICJ’s call for Israel to prevent incitement to genocide in Gaza. Uganda’s UN envoy clarified that her ruling “does not represent” the country’s stance, which supports Palestine. Critics accused her of bias due to alleged Christian Zionist views. Sebutinde dismissed backlash as “sentiments from the pit of hell,” defending her decision as independent and faith-driven.
How can a lunatic of her ilk end up on the bench of the ICJ is utterly baffling.

Monitor
My country disowned me after Israel–Gaza ruling - Sebutinde
Justice Sebutinde, now serving her second and final nine-year term at the ICJ in the Netherlands
Ben-Gvir didn’t “visit” Marwan Barghouti — he stormed a cell with cameras and threats. In the clip, Israel’s national security minister leans over a visibly gaunt Barghouti and says: “Whoever messes with the Nation of Israel… we will wipe them out.” It’s Barghouti’s first public sighting in years. His family says he’s been kept in prolonged solitary and beaten; the prison service denies it — but the video shows the humiliation ritual plainly enough!
This isn’t “security.” It’s performance cruelty — and it sits on top of a carceral machine that independent bodies say is out of control. The UN’s human-rights office has documented arbitrary, incommunicado detention and widespread torture and sexualized abuse of Palestinian detainees since Oct 7. Dozens have died in custody. Israel disputes this — while still blocking UN monitors and the Red Cross from detainee visits.
No inspections, no sunlight. The ICRC states outright it has not been allowed to visit any Palestinian detainees since Oct 2023. That’s a bright red line in humanitarian law — crossed.
The numbers are a scandal in themselves: 3,327 Palestinians in administrative detention (no charge, no trial) at the end of 2024, plus 113 minors held on “security” grounds; administrative detention of 112 children hit an all-time high.
Doctors, nurses, and paramedics who were detained describe beatings, stress positions, denial of care — even rape and sexual abuse in custody; Human Rights Watch calls it torture. UN experts have echoed the pattern across facilities.
And when detainees do emerge, many come out emaciated, with wounds and testimonies of starvation and abuse. You can dismiss every Palestinian NGO as “biased” if that helps you sleep, but it won’t erase the independent reporting, the UN files, the HRW casework, or the fact that Israel refuses the one thing that would settle the argument: unfettered access for neutral inspectors.
So let’s name what Ben-Gvir’s stunt was: theatrical domination — a minister turning a prisoner into a prop, mid-threat, under a system that hides its cells from the world and calls that “rule of law.” Demand specifics, not slogans: restore ICRC access now; end incommunicado detention; free children and those held without charge; investigate deaths and torture in custody with international monitors; sanction officials and units that obstruct oversight. Anything less is complicity.

❗️🇷🇺🇺🇸 Surreal atmosphere in Anchorage ahead of the discussions between #DonaldTrump and #VladimirPutin. There's electricity in the air and the calm and composed demeanor of the Russian president stands in sharp contrast with the bombastic demeanor of the US leader and the aggresive, almost goading tone of the US media pool. It's as if everything is being done to provoke Putin into a reaction which could be interpreted in bad faith as highlighting the nature of a character the western media has built out of thin air this last decade.

The press conference has been delayed as President Trump is on the phone with E3 leaders – the UK, Germany, and France.
"Following a meeting that lasted nearly three hours, it would seem that the Russians came so prepared that there was no need felt for the working breakfast to proceed as planned. Suffice it to say, the US delegation was informed in all details (including the implications of the rapid collapse of the front lines) about the political risks associated with a complete military defeat of Ukraine. Russia offered a face saving package which likely included opportunities for US companies to partake in comprehensive and substantial economic development projects. Draft contracts and protocols were likely provided to the US side to study. Expect confiscated Russian diplomatic property to be returned swiftly and direct flights to and from Moscow to resume as well. President Trump will now enjoin the EU 3 to convey to Zelensky the need to agree with the Russian proposal short of what, the US will pull out and wash its hands from the whole thing.
